GENERAL
 
As R. Wiggins was not riding due to illness, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
The race book advertised Races 1 and 4 as being over 1000m when, due to the repositioning of the rail, the correct distance was 1015m, and Races 2 and 5 as being over 1666m when the correct distance was 1690m. Public announcements were made to this effect.
 
Race 1: CFMEU LABOUR DAY RACES 6 MAY MAIDEN PLATE – 1015M
 
As L. Cassidy was unable to fulfil his engagement due to transport difficulties, M. Du Plessis was substituted as the rider of ARCING HARD. Stewards will request from jockey Cassidy some evidence supporting his reason for failing to fulfil his engagement.
 
As L. Tarrant was to be overweight, T. Harrison was substituted as the rider of EUROFLYER. L. Tarrant was fined $100.
 
Stewards accepted trainer T. Cotsiopoulos’s explanation for the late declaration of A. Spinks as the rider of GRACE OF MONACO.
 
ARCING HARD – Began awkwardly.
 
ELEMENTAE – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
PHONY PONY – Laid in in the home straight.
 
SCARAMOUCHE – Began awkwardly.
 
EUROFLYER – Began awkwardly. Had difficulty obtaining clear running to the outside of ELEMENTAE upon straightening.
 
RUNAMUK – Bumped at the start.
 
SIXES – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
SUZY NEEDS LOVIN’ – Bumped at the start. Hung out throughout the event and near the 700m, when racing in restricted room to the inside of RUNAMUK, had to be checked and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer J. Brown was advised that the filly must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to starting again.
 
Race 2: CARLTON MID MAIDEN PLATE – 1690M
 
THELLYSON – Slow to begin.
 
ITSA – Made contact with the running rail approaching the 100m and became awkward.
 
ELITE LABEL – Slow to begin. Bumped by LOTUS LEAF approaching the 400m.
 
HAKWA – Began awkwardly.
 
LOTUS LEAF – Overraced in the early stages and near the 1300m was steadied from the heels of CALISTO. Had to be checked approaching the 400m and bumped ELITE LABEL when placed in restricted room between ELITE LABEL and CALISTO, which was taken out by WAKATA. R. Fradd, the rider of WAKATA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that approaching the 400m he shifted his mount out when insufficiently clear of CALISTO, resulting in LOTUS LEAF being tightened for room. Jockey Fradd’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Wednesday 24 April and expire at midnight on Thursday 2 May 2019. J. Lloyd was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts right out to the end of the race.
 
MORE OF MARY – Overraced in the early stages and as a consequence raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
WAKATA – R. Fradd reported that his mount was disappointing in its inability to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.
 
REAL FOXY LADY – Slow to begin.
 
Race 3: SIRROMET CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1350M
 
MY SONG – Shifted in and away from CINNAMON MISSILE leaving the 200m and bumped MAKES YOU THINK.
 
MAKES YOU THINK – Bumped at the start. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight when attempting to improve to the outside of SHAUQUIN. Bumped by MY SONG leaving the 200m.
 
 
MAGIC INK – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped TACTICAL MANUEVER. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
TACTICAL MANUEVER – Bumped at the start.
 
Race 4: BOOK NOW IPSWICH CUP 15 JUNE CLASS 5 H'CAP – 1015M
 
RAIDEN – Slow to begin. Steadied and lost ground near the 800m when tightened for room by BACKSLAPPER, which was taken in by REMOVAL, which had been taken in by CAMBOOYA ROCK. S. Apthorpe, the rider of CAMBOOYA ROCK, was reprimanded.
 
EIGHT OVER – Bumped at the start. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages, resulting in jockey J. Lloyd having to stop riding and straighten his mount to avoid causing interference to runners to his inside.
 
BACKSLAPPER – Got its head down as the start was effected and was slow to begin.
 
HIRTSHALS – Began awkwardly and was bumped at the start.
 
REMOVAL – Initially taken in by CAMBOOYA ROCK over the concluding stages and then was checked to avoid the heels of EIGHT OVER, which shifted out marginally. S. Apthorpe, the rider of CAMBOOYA ROCK, was severely reprimanded.
 
CAMBOOYA ROCK – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
GENERAL NELSON – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped EIGHT OVER, became unbalanced and then bumped HIRTSHALS.
 
Race 5: SCHWEPPES RATINGS BAND 0 – 65 H'CAP – 1690M
 
Trainer L. Wanless was fined $100 for failing to declare apprentice C. Gallagher as the rider of PERSISTENT SHADOW by the prescribed time.
 
SO YOU WISH – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden more forward today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly and settled in a position outside the leader.
 
LEFKAS ISLAND – Held up passing the 400m. M. Du Plessis reported that his mount did not feel comfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
RULER’S PRIDE – Slow to begin. Overraced in the middle stages and near the 1100m and the 1000m had to be checked from the heels of MOTHER TO RACE HER.
 
Race 6: RAY WHITE IPSWICH QTIS 3YO C&G BENCHMARK 65 H'CAP – 1200M
 
ENTERPRISE PRINCE – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
WE CONCUR – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
 
COASTAL PRINCE – Held up rounding the home turn. Steadied from the heels of ENTERPRISE PRINCE near the 50m.
 
ENTERPRISE GRAND – M. Cahill reported that his mount hung out throughout.
 
SPIRIT OF CHEROKEE – Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 7: FREE FAMILY FUN @ LABOUR DAY RACES QTIS 3YO FILLIES BENCHMARK 65 H'CAP – 1200M
 
The start of this race was delayed when WANNA BLUE was fractious in the barriers, resulting in the bridle having to be refitted.
 
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow D. Griffin, the rider of 3rd placegetter CONQUERMORE, to view the patrol footage to ascertain if he had grounds on which to lodge an objection against the winner over the final 200m. After viewing the footage jockey Griffin indicated that he did not wish to proceed.
 
EPIC GIRL – Bumped at the start by BOOM COUNTY. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
MIDNIGHT MATINEE – Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
CONQUERMORE – Overraced in the early stages. Bumped by COSSIE over the concluding stages. Cast the near fore plate in running.
 
WANNA BLUE – Reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground.
 
ROXY’S A STAR – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped DIARIST. Steadied approaching the 100m when placed in restricted room to the inside of TEQUILA BOOM.
 
BOOM COUNTY – Hampered when tightened for room at the start. Inclined to lay in behind the heels of EPIC GIRL upon straightening.
 
COSSIE – Bumped by CONQUERMORE near the 150m.
 
SHE ZA BOSS – Had to be steadied from the heels of ENTERPRISE LOUISE near the 900m when that runner shifted in. Had to be steadied and lost ground near the 800m when tightened for room by ENTERPRISE LOUISE, which shifted in.
 
DIARIST – Began awkwardly and was then bumped by ROXY’S A STAR. Severely checked and made heavy contact with the running rail and lost significant ground near the 800m after being tightened for room by SHE ZA BOSS, which was taken in by ENTERPRISE LOUISE. Apprentice C. Gallagher, the rider of ENTERPRISE LOUISE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in at that point, resulting in the interference to SHE ZA BOSS and DIARIST. Apprentice Gallagher’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 17 days, to commence at midnight on Monday 22 April and expire at midnight on Thursday 9 May 2019. In determining penalty, stewards took into account the high degree of both carelessness and interference. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a bruise to the offside thoracic region.
 
Race 8: IPSWICH CUP TIX ON SALE CLASS 2 PLATE – 1200M
 
Stewards accepted trainer S. O’Dea’s explanation for the late scratching of MAKES YOU THINK at 7:41 am.
 
The start of this race was delayed when AMAZINGLY, which was fractious in the barriers, was removed, underwent a veterinary examination and cleared to start.
 
PAPER TRADE – Hampered shortly after the start. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
CHIKORITA – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. Obliged to shift out across the heels of EMERALD KINGDOM near the 200m. Held up again over the concluding stages and went to the line without being fully tested.
 
WEBOUGHTAZOU – Began awkwardly.
 
COLTON – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground.
 
LADY MOSSMAN – Began awkwardly.
