Race 2: Following The Sun Fillies & Mares Maiden Plate – 1200m

Stewards considered an objection lodged by R. Stewart the rider of TWERK which finished second against ARZU (M. Cahill) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference in the home straight. Stewards in giving consideration were of the opinion that in the early part of the home straight ARZU did shift out but had no bearing on TWERK at that point. However, passing the 70m mark ARZU under riding did shift out and impede the rightful racing line of TWERK and forced that runner wider on the track. TWERK was also accidentally struck by the whip of jockey M. Cahill. Stewards in determining the interference suffered to TWERK were of the opinion that if not for a shift out from ARZU, TWERK would have had an unimpeded run to the line and given the nose margin would have beaten ARZU at the finish and there upheld the objection and amended the placings to read:-

2nd       ARZU
3rd       AL JOOD
4th       CANDY FLOSS
