BRING ME SHOWERS – Shifted four wide to improve after passing the 600m and when placed under pressure rounding the home turn failed to respond and proved disappointing over the final 200m. Performed below market expectation. $1.60 beaten favourite. Jockey S. Thornton stated that the mare appeared very relaxed during the preliminary and was not exhibiting its usual pre-race demeanour, and when placed under pressure during the race failed to respond her riding.  She added that, in her opinion, BRING ME SHOWERS may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer S. O’Dea could offer no explanation for the mare’s disappointing performance today, other than that the nine days between runs may have been a contributing factor. A post-race veterinary examination of BRING ME SHOWERS failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow-up with trainer S. O’Dea in the ensuing days in relation to the mare’s performance. A post-race swab sample was taken from the mare.
