Race 1: DINE @THEBARNFAMILYRESTAURANT CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1350M
 
DESERT KNIGHT – Bounded at the start.
 
Race 2: CARLTON MID MAIDEN PLATE – 1700M
 
JIMMY NEUTRON – Stewards permitted the late scratching of the gelding at 8.44am for veterinary reasons.
 
SPURIOUS – Laid in in the home straight and near the 100m bumped with TOROWOTO.
 
TOROWOTO – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Steadied to avoid the heels of ESKIMO KISS near the 1200m. Bumped near the 100m.
 
TYCOON MCKINNEY – Slow into stride.
 
MORGAUSE – Slow into stride.
 
CELTIC PRIDE – Slow into stride.
 
PACKAGE – Trainer S. Morrisey advised that the gelding would be ridden further forward today if circumstances permit. The gelding was ridden accordingly. Began awkwardly. Hung in near the 1000m and made contact with the running rail. Hung out in the home straight. Jockey J. Huxtable reported that the gelding raced extremely green throughout and proved difficult to ride. Trainer S. Morrisey was advised that a warning will now be placed on the horse’s racing manners.
 
Due to some rainfall, the track was downgraded from a Good 4 to a Soft 5 at 1.24pm.
 
Race 3: SIRROMET MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
 
The declaration of correct weight was delayed after the Judges notified Stewards that an error had been made in the placings originally semaphored for 3rd and 4th. After viewing the photo finish image, Stewards were satisfied with the Judges’ amended placings of LUCKY TIME (3rd) and ARISE MY SON (4th), and accordingly correct weight was declared on the placings 7, 4, 11 and 2.
 
KARBORS – Held up behind MISHANI DESTROYER passing the 500m.
 
MISHANI DESTROYER – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
NEXT DIMENSION – Overraced in the early stages.
 
TIM’S LANE – Began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and lost ground. Near the 800m, when racing greenly, was checked to avoid the heels of ARISE MY SON. Jockey C. Taylor reported that the gelding, which was having its first start, raced greenly with the blinkers on.
 
BISHOJO – Near the 800m, when being restrained to obtain cover, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of WE WANT IT ALL before shifting in. The mare then began to race greenly.
 
LUCKY TIME – Began awkwardly. Steadied to avoid the heels of NEXT DIMENSION when the pace steadied near the 900m.
 
Due to further rainfall, the track was downgraded from a Soft 5 to a Soft 6 at 2.02pm.
 
Race 4: SCHWEPPES FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 1 PLATE – 1200M
 
The start of this race was delayed to enable the broadcast of an interstate event.
 
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable Stewards to view the photo finish image of the dead-heating runners for 4th place. After viewing the image, Stewards were satisfied with the Judge’s numbers and declared correct weight.
 
ENTERPRISE ASVA – Bounded at the start and lost ground. Overraced in the early stages.
 
RHYME TIME – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn before obtaining a neat run between STAR BARISTA and VIVID FORTRESS which had shifted out marginally.
 
VIVID FORTRESS – Eased down over the concluding stages and performed below market expectation. Jockey M. Hellyer reported that it was not his intention to lead, however the mare mustered early speed and raced keenly in the early stages. He further added that, in his opinion, the mare did not handle today’s soft track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
Following the running of this race, the track was further downgraded from a Soft 6 to a Soft 7 at 2.42pm.
 
Race 5: TAB BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 800M
 
BEWARE – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight before shifting in over the heels of REMEMBER MARY to obtain clear running. Steadied over the concluding stages when improving close to the heels of REMEMBER MARY which shifted in.
 
SERTIN – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped with SOMEBODY’S GIRL. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight before shifting in near the 200m. Approaching the 150m, carried in by BEWARE and then overreacted and shifted in further and, as a result, bumped with AFTER THE STORM. Over the concluding stages, steadied to avoid the heels of BEWARE which shifted in. Performed below market expectation. Apprentice S. Tomlinson advised that, after being bumped at the start, his mount settled further back than anticipated. He added that, in his opinion, the gelding did not handle today’s Soft 7 track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its off fore leg. Co-Trainer M. Sears was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
 
REAL CUTE – Slow to begin.
 
AFTER THE STORM – Approaching the 400m, steadied to avoid the heels of SOMEBODY’S GIRL. Approaching the 300m, became awkwardly placed inside the heels of SOMEBODY’S GIRL and had to be steadied. Near the 150m, bumped by SERTIN and became unbalanced.
 
SOMEBODY’S GIRL – Bumped at the start.
 
Race 6: THOROUGHBRED SPORTS BAR NOW OPEN BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1530M
 
CORSINI – Near the 1000m, steadied to avoid the heels of KIRRO.
 
KIRRO – Made the 1000m turn awkwardly and, as a result, had to be steadied.
 
CELTIC TIGER – Improved three wide from the 700m. Jockey N. Tomizawa stated that, due to the slow tempo through the middle stages, he elected to permit his mount to improve wider on the track from the 700m.
 
Race 7: PENNYWISE COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES CLASS 1 PLATE – 1200M
 
BIG JAKE – Jockey A. Sewell reported that the gelding failed to handle the Soft 7 track conditions today. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
HE’S NOT FOCUSED – Stewards acceded to a request from Trainer S. Hardy to declare the gelding a late scratching at 1.24pm when it proved difficult load in the float and became extremely agitated.
 
KING’S RULE – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Brushed and carried wider passing the 500m when WOWSERS shifted out.
 
WOWSERS – Approaching the 500m, when attempting to improve into a run between ZEELUCK and KING’S RULE, brushed on a number of occasions with KING’S RULE. Jockey R. Wiggins was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on nine occasions prior to the 100m, which is four more than permitted.
 
ZEELUCK – Jockey J. Taylor was fined $200 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip seven times prior to the 100m, which is two more than permitted.
 
DISARMED – Trainer M. Wilson was fined $100 for the late declaration of T. Harrison as rider. Performed below market expectation. Jockey T. Harrison reported that the gelding, which was first up from a spell today, failed to handle the Soft 7 track conditions, however it would derive benefit from this run. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
