GENERAL
 
Following recent rain and a further 5mL late yesterday afternoon, the 1700m chute was deemed unsuitable for racing upon inspection at 6am. After consultation with Racing Queensland and Ipswich Turf Club Officials, it was agreed to alter the distances of Races 6 and 7 from 1700m to approximately 1600m.
 
As R Maloney and B Pengelly were unable to attend the meeting due to illness, replacements were permitted as per raceday summary. Both riders were advised medicals would be required prior to riding again.
 
Due to the rescheduling of the meeting, Stewards accepted the reasons for the late riding changes from various trainers.
 
Race 1: TAB VENUE MODE QTIS Two-Year-Old C1 PLT - 800m
 
KINKY DREAMS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. When questioned regarding the performance of the filly, jockey B Thompson stated his intentions were to lead but when unable to do so, was forced to race wide in the early stages and elected to restrain his mount in an attempt to find cover. He added his mount hung out when rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure in the home straight, KINKY DREAMS only responded fairly, and elected to not place the mare under any further pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.
 
LE RUBIS – Bumped with ALBERT’S IN CHARGE on jumping.
 
ALBERT'S IN CHARGE – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with the barrier partition and then bumped with LE RUBIS. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 2: IPSWICH CUP 19 JUNE C5 HCP – 1350m
 
MANIAS – Bumped on jumping with ESKDALE GIRL.
 
ESKDALE GIRL – Bumped on jumping with MANIAS. Passing the 200m, improved onto heels of JINX’N’DRINX and shifted out to obtain clear running.
 
RUSSIAN ROMEO – Jockey R Payne reported that the gelding failed to handle today’s soft track conditions.
 
Race 3: WHITTINGTON @ GRANDVIEW STUD QTIS Three-Year-Old BM70 70 HCP - 1200m
 
MOONAN ME – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
SWEET RHAPSODY – Passing the 800m when the pace steadied, improved onto the heels of ALPHA GO and had to be eased.
 
NIAB – Passing the 800m when the pace steadied, improved onto the heels of EXCEL IN THE SUN and had to be eased.
 
EXCEL IN THE SUN – When asked to comment on the performance jockey J Byrne stated the filly travelled comfortably in a position outside the lead for the majority, however when placed under pressure after passing the 400m, failed to respond and in his opinion, may not have handled todays soft track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.
 
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to a Soft (6).
 
Race 4: LABOUR DAY RACES MAY 8 C1 PLT - 1100m
 
ARRIVERDERCI ROMA – Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping.
 
INSTABEATS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer L Abbott was advised of the provisions of AR79(4).
 
KOBANG – Began awkwardly.
 
TORTUGA – Raced wide without cover throughout. Passing the 300m, commenced to weaken and as a result, rider J Huxtable elected to ease the gelding down as he was of the opinion that something was amiss with his mount. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer S Parsons was advised that TORTUGA’s nominations would be refused at TAB venues until its form improves in the NON-TAB venues.
 
JOJO GO – After racing In a forward position for the majority of the event, commenced to weaken from the 200m and approaching the winning post was eased down by its rider C Taylor as he was of the opinion that something was amiss with his mount. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer B Butts was advised that JOJO GO would be required to officially barrier trial prior to its next start. Trainer B Butts advised he would have his veterinary surgeon examine the gelding and advise Stewards of the findings.
 
Race 5: BARN FAMILY RESTAURANT C1 PLT – 1100m
 
GLAM ROCK (NZ) – Bumped the running rail passing the 1000m. Jockey H Phillips reported that her mount may have got the tongue over the bit during the event.
 
INTIMATE TYCOON – Overraced in the early stages whilst leading.
 
SAKURA STAR – Permission was granted for J Huxtable to claim 0.5kg of his allowance, which was ½ kg above his riding weight as he was unable to sweat due to the newly imposed COVID-19 restrictions.
 
Race 6: SPORTS BAR OPEN SATURDAYS MDN PLT – Approx 1600m
 
NUBE VIAJERA – Jumped awkwardly and shifted in making contact with ZABCAN. Passing the 700m, shifted three wide with cover to improve.
 
PRINCE HUSSON – Held up rounding the home turn. Passing the 200m, raced in restricted room to the inside of ZABCAN and had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight.
 
ZABCAN – Contacted on jumping when NUBE VIAJERA shifted in. Passing the 1300m, commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from the heels of PATTI WAGON. Passing the 1000m, again improved onto the heels of PATTI WAGON and had to be restrained.
 
MASTER RICHARD – After being caught wide in the early stages was allowed to stride forward and obtain the lead near the 1300m.
 
PATTI WAGGIN – Raced keenly throughout and approaching the 700m had to be restrained.
 
WINDUPGIRL – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
VITAL SOURCE – Began awkwardly. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey M McGillivray reported that the filly raced in her normal racing pattern, however when placed under pressure rounding the home turn, failed to respond and in his opinion failed to handle todays soft track conditions.
 
DUTCH DELIGHT (NZ) – Approaching the 700m shifted three wide to improve.
 
Race 7: EVENTS @ IEEC.COM.AU C4 HCP - Approx 1600m
 
SENRIMA TIDE (NZ) – Crowded on jumping. After being caught wide three wide without cover and racing keenly, was allowed to stride forward at the 1100m to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1000m.
 
MISS SILKY – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
MOOD (NZ) – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
PRINCELY SUM – Raced wide throughout. Jockey N Tomizawa was reminded of his obligations regarding the use of his whip on a horse when out of contention.
 
Race 8: IPSWICH CUP TIX ON SALE BM72 HCP – 1100m
 
SWEET SNITTY – When asked to comment on tactics adopted, apprentice L Kilner stated that she was instructed to race in a handy position, however after beginning well and when THE FIRST OF MAY was restrained by J Byrne to her inside, she elected to stride forward and assume the lead without pressure. Trainers representative Mr B Lockwood confirmed the instructions. Stewards accepted the explanation.
 
MOSCINI – Began awkwardly.
 
BELLE'S PLUCK – Passing the 700m, obliged to shift three wide to avoid the heels of BLUE ODYSSEY. Apprentice A Thompson dropped his whip approaching the 50m.
 
Race 9: RAY WHITE IPSWICH C1 HCP - 1350m
 
MEMORIAL DAY – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure approaching the 200m inconveniencing PARLOUR.
 
TRIPTONIC – Slow to begin. Passing the 400m, after being taken out by IMITARI which shifted to improve, became awkwardly placed on the heels of the weakening YAWKYYAWK and had to be checked before shifting wider to improve.
 
PARLOUR – Hampered on jumping. Inconvenienced passing the 200m.
 
BAMBALAM – As there was no other apprentice available, Stewards permitted apprentice A Thompson to only claim 1kg of his 2kg allowance as he was unable to sweat due to the newly imposed COVID-19 restrictions. Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
WHISTLIN' ARROW – After being caught wide without cover in the early stages, was allowed to stride forward to obtain the lead approaching the 1000m.
 
YAWKYAWK – Commenced to weaken around the home turn and finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils for the first time and exhibiting cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer D Trindall was advised of the provisions of AR79(4) and also advised that the results of an ECG would be required prior to the mare trialling and being permitted to race again. Trainer D Trindall advised stewards that it would now be his intention to retire the mare.
