ROYAL GEORGE – On arrival at the barriers, the bridle on the gelding was readjusted. Bounded on jumping and lost ground. Tightened for room and had to be steadied approaching the winning post when SPIRITUAL rolled in and away from EIGHTYTHREE BRICKS. In the presence of jockey advocate S Scriven, Stewards questioned apprentice M Castle over tactics adopted in the event particularly between the 900 metres and the 600 metres when ROYAL GEORGE, after racing at the rear of the field, lost contact from the main body of the field approaching the 900 metres. Apprentice Castle advised instructions were to allow ROYAL GEORGE to race in a rearward position and to pressure the gelding from the 600 metres, which were confirmed by trainer L Gersekowski. After considering instructions issued and apprentice Castle’s relative inexperience, Stewards took no direct action other than to advise apprentice Castle that she had erred in not maintaining contact with the body of the field from the 900 metres.
