GENERAL
 
From SCTC, 12.3.19 – Race 6
 
Following the poor performance of Spicer, trainer K. Hickmott reported to stewards Spicer had pulled up fine, however it was now his intention to spell the horse for a short time and look to start it over shorter distances as he did not feel it handled the step up to 1600m.

Due to today’s forecast temperatures, the meeting was conducted under Section 1A of the QRIC Extreme Heat Policy

Race 1: Con Searle QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate – 1060m
 
BRIGALOW QUEEN – The start was delayed when the filly proved reluctant to load. Trainer G. Richardson was advised that a warning would be placed against the filly’s barrier manners.  Raced greenly in the straight and near the 100m shifted in under pressure, resulting in its rider having to stop riding and straighten.
 
 
 
ROCKSHORE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Then raced ungenerously for the remainder of the event. Rider reported at scale that, in his opinion, the gelding raced ungenerously and felt that the blinkers may have contributed to this. He recommended to connections to remove the blinkers for its next race start.  A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post race recovery.  Trainer S. Cole was advised that a warning would be placed against the gelding’s racing manners.
 
METALLURGIST – Began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with another runner.   Jockey C. Bayliss was reprimanded for failing to ride his mount right out to the end of the race.
 
MOA’S GIRL – Bumped at the start.  Approaching the 800m when racing ungenerously had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of SUCCINITE.
 
 
Race 2: Somerset Regional Council Class 3 Plate – 1060m
 
LITTLE MISS MONACO – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
RED BLANKET – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.
 
AVASA – Tightened for room at the start.
 
USURP – Approaching the 800 jockey C. Gallagher became awkward in the saddle and as a result shifted wider on the track and was unable to regain his balance due to his foot being dislodged from his iron, placing him at a disadvantage and  having an effect on its competitive chances. Regained his balanced in the saddle near the 600m.
 
YOUR OPTION – Inconvenienced by USURP near the 800m and was forced to race wide for the remainder of the race having an impact on its competitive chances.
 
WINSOME SAM – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 3: Kilcoy Diggers Day Sat 13 April Class 1 H’cap – 1500m
 
SUPERVISOR – Slow to begin.  Tightened for room shortly after the start.
 
THE IRONS – Raced wide throughout the event. Near the 1000m blundered after clipping the heels of BIANCATAK, which shifted out slightly when overracing. Jockey J. Oliver reported at scales that, in his opinion, the gelding may not have been suited to the tight turning track.
 
RED FLYER – Held up briefly approaching the home turn.
 
 
Race 4: Kilcoy Global Foods F&M Benchmark 55 H’cap – 1200m
 
BULLION BELLE – Stood flatfooted as the start was effected and lost ground. Hung out rounding the home turn, placing its rider at some disadvantage. Trainer B. Lockwood was advised that a further barrier certificate must be obtained  before the mare races again. He indicated the horse would now be sent for a spell.
 
OFF TO THE RIPPAS – Shifted out at the start and made contact with SCENT OF A WOMAN. Raced wide for the majority of the race.  
 
SCENT OF A WOMAN – Bumped at the start. Tightened for room shortly after the start.
 
ROSEXCEL – Began awkwardly and bumped MAYFAIR LADY.
 
MAYFAIR LADY – Bumped at the start.
 
SHE’S A MITZY – Near the 1000m had to be steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of HONOUR PROMISE, which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey G. Geran, rider of HONOUR PROMISE, was issued with a reprimand for this incident.
 
 
Race 5: Searles Garden Products Maiden Plate – 800m
 
CHASING ACRES – Trainer J. Gregory was fined $100 for failing to advise a rider for the horse by the prescribed time.
 
OUR BOY BORRIS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Placed in restricted room near the 400m to the inside of SOCIALEYES and made contact with that runner and became unbalanced for a stride.
 
THE VOLTO – Bounded in the air as the start was effected and lost ground.
 
RITZ AND GLITZ – Stood flatfooted at the start and then shifted out abruptly, losing ground .
 
MALEFIC – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
D’GREAT BEAUTY – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
FLEUR DE JOUR – Raced extremely wide rounding the home turn.
 
 
Race 6: Butler McDermott Lawyers Benchmark 55 H’cap – 1900m
 
ROCKY HALO – Began awkwardly and then failed to muster early speed. Jockey C. Bayliss reported at scale that after being slow into stride and due to the slow tempo in the early stages he allowed his mount to shift wider on the track and improve forward near the 1000m.  He added that as a result he was obliged to raced wide for the remainder of the race and the gelding failed to finish the race off.
 
RED CAVALRY – Raced wide in the early stages before assuming a position outside the leader near the 1400m.
 
REWA LAD – Held up for clear running between the 600m and 400m.
 
RELAXED – When afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance, jockey M. Palmer stated that the gelding failed to quicken when the tempo increased near the 600m and only found the line fairly.
 
 
Race 7: Kilcoy Exchange Hotel CG&E Benchmark 55 H’cap – 1200m
 
HARADIFY  - Trainers A. Ross and T. Sweeney were fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide.
 
DAZET – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
GETS SMOKIN’ – Slow to begin.
 
CAPTAIN CARTS – Hung out rounding the home turn. A post race veterinary examination  revealed the presence of blood in one nostril, however the veterinary surgeon confirmed  that this was due to external trauma and therefore was not deemed a bleeder.
 
EARSTOUN RULER – Had difficulty securing clear running in the home straight.
