Race 1 – Retired Raceday Ladies QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate – 800m

The start of this race was delayed when the Judge informed stewards that after initially setting up the photo-finish system and testing it to be in working order encountered a malfunction just prior to the start of the race, therefore the first race was completed without the photo-finish system operational. Following the running of race one the problem with the photo finish system was rectified and remained operational for the meeting.

Correct weight was delayed to allow jockey M. Schrapel, rider of ICED, placed 3rd by the Judge, to view the stewards patrol films to determine his placing. After viewing the patrol films he was satisfied with the Judge’s placings and therefore stewards declared correct weight on the Judge’s numbers.

URALBA – Began awkwardly, then had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of HARRINGTON.

WHIPPED CREAM – Began awkwardly and then hampered shortly after.

ICED – Began awkwardly, and then was steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of GOOD ART and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

FRENCH OCEAN – Began awkwardly and was then slow to muster speed. Raced greenly throughout and near the 100m shifted in and brushed the running rail.

OUR SHANIA – Near the 600m was hampered by GOOD ART, which shifted in and away from FAIR FELLA, which shifted in abruptly when racing greenly. Jockey R. Goltz reported at scale that his saddle slipped back, placing him at a disadvantage for the majority of the race.

HARRINGTON – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 2 – Golden Downs Brisbane Class 4 Plate – 1500m

SAIL THE STARS – Blundered shortly after the start.

MR TICKETS – After racing wide in the early stages was allowed to improve forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1000m.

WAINUI GOLD – Apprentice S. Lacy reported at scale it was not her intention to settle as far back in the field, however due to the fast early tempo she was unable to obtain a forward position when racing wide, and elected to restrain to obtain cover. She also reported that her mount was inclined to lay in in the home straight, resulting in her having to stop riding and straighten.

Race 3 – Golden Downs Ultimate Enjoyment Maiden Plate – 1200m

The start of this race was delayed due to a number of runners being fractious in the parade ring.

The start was further delayed when THORBEN underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers at the request of its rider, which revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg and was subsequently declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 1.20 pm, with the following deductions applicable.

1 cent in the dollar on the face value of win bets
1 cent in the dollar on the face value of win bets for the place
1 cent in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets
2 cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rd place bets

NAVILLUS STRYKER – Apprentice H. English reported at scale that her mount failed to handle today’s track conditions. The stable representative for the horse was advised that a veterinary clearance must be supplied prior to its next race start.

Race 4 – Beavis Bartels Families Benchmark 60 H’cap – 1900m

SECRET AGENT MAN – Began awkwardly and was tightened for room shortly after the start. Raced 3 wide without cover before obtaining a position outside the leader near the 1300m. When afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance, jockey V. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery rate.

QUEEN CONSORT – Began awkwardly after its barrier gate was marginally slow to open. Near the 1600m had to be checked from the heels of SHELTER LADY, which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. Jockey A. Spinks, rider of SHELTER LADY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1600m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of QUEEN CONSORT, resulting in that horse having to be checked from the heels of SHELTER LADY. SHELTER LADY - The stable representative reported that the mare had sustained minor lacerations consistent with having been galloped on.

Following this event the stewards brought to the attention of the starter that there was an issue with one barrier being marginally slow to open. Subsequently the starter advised he had tested the barrier gates and was satisfied that the issue had been rectified.

Race 5 – Golden Shores Hervey Bay Benchmark 55 H’cap – 1500m

After passing the winning post on the first occasion had to be steadied when awkwardly placed between COMMISSIONER and ROTINDY and as a result shifted wider on the track.
