JACK LANCASTER – Stewards questioned apprentice R. Shred, in the company of senior rider J. Stanley, into the riding tactics she adopted on the horse, particularly between the 1000m and 700m.  Ms Shred stated approaching the 800m she had elected to allow the gelding to stride 3 wide to race to the outside of AIRACOBRA (D. Hayse), which had shifted out at this point of the race to race outside the leader, CANID (App. H. English) and as a result JACK LANCASTER was obliged to race in a 3-wide position for the majority of the race. Ms Shred further added she elected to do this being mindful of the 62 kilogram impost and to allow the horse to travel comfortably. Stewards were of the opinion she had the option to restrain her mount and hold a position one off the fence behind the leaders, which senior rider J. Stanley was in agreement with.  As such, Stewards advised Ms Shred that, in their opinion, she had erred at that point and had better options available than allowing the horse to race in a 3-wide position. In noting Ms Shred was a relatively inexperienced 3kg claiming apprentice Stewards were of the opinion she was not culpable under the Rules of Racing. Apprentice Shred was advised better judgment would be expected going forward and that this matter would be brought to the attention of her master, Ms J. Ryan.

IWATANI – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering heat stress and an irregular heartbeat. Trainer T. Bannon was advised she must provide the results of an ECG at rest and vet clearance after trialling prior to the horse being permitted to race again.

Thomas advised stewards at scale it was not his intention to ride the horse in a forward position, however after beginning well the horse travelled comfortably in that position.
