From Saturday, 25.5.19 – Race 7 – Amateur Cup Open Handicap – 1800m

Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the reason Warwick Avenue appeared to clip heels and blunder, dislodging apprentice T. Doyle near the 400m.  After hearing initial  evidence on the day and further evidence from riders B. Pengelly (Fastnet Flyer) and apprentice T. Doyle (Warwick Avenue), with further viewing of the film it was established that Fastnet Flyer shifted out at that point simultaneously when Casta (P. Cullen), racing to the outside, lost ground abruptly for no apparent reason, placing Warwick Avenue in restricted room.  As stewards deemed no one rider could be attributed full blame, the incident was noted as an unfortunate racing incident.

Race 1:  TAB QTIS 3yo Maiden  H’cap – 1300m

CRAIGLEA TOPAZ – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

DJEBEL READY – Shifted out at the start, bumping another runner.

ANOTHER SLIPPER – Became fractious in the barriers. THE DECKERAIDER – Slow to begin.

STONE WARRIOR – Slow to begin.  When questioned into the seemingly improved performance, Trainer J. Manzelmann stated the horse was unsuited to dirt tracks and in his opinion failed to stretch out at its previous starts. Following it last start at Bowen he explained it had suffered interference on jumping, and in hindsight may not have been suited to an inexperienced rider. He further added that the gelding had pleased him leading up to today’s race and had expected a forward showing on a more suitable track with a senior rider. Explanation was noted.

Trainer W. Kenning advised stewards he was disappointed with today’s performance and advised that the gelding would now be sent for an immediate spell.
