Race 2: McDonalds Mackay QTIS 3yo Class 1 H’cap - 1050m

On return to scale, jockey N. Thomas, rider of the 3rd placegetter, VAMPARINA, lodged a protest against MARRON CHEVAL (N. Day) being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 200m. After hearing evidence from all connections and viewing the film, it was established that MARRON CHEVAL when attempting to take a tight run near the 200m shifted in, crowding VAMPARINA, then was taken in marginally by KISS ME LATER (P. Cullen), which shifted in, causing VAMPARINA to be checked. In considering where the incident took place and the amount of ground lost by VAMPARINA, stewards could not be satisfied that an alteration to the placings be warranted and therefore dismissed the protest and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s numbers.

VAMPARINA – Delayed the start when it broke through the barriers before being restrained quickly, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

MALVAGIO – Delayed the start further after becoming fractious in the barriers. Examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

Jockey N. Day, rider of MARRON CHEVAL, was severely reprimanded and advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.

MIRACULOUS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have heart arrhythmia. Connections were advised they must provide the results of an ECG and the horse must gallop 1000 metres to stewards’ satisfaction prior to racing again.
