Race 1: Smartstate Rentals QTIS 2yo Maiden H’cap – 1200m

TAMBO’S QUEEN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.

EL FITTO – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow into stride. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and had to shift wider to improve into clear running. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey B. Appo stated that his mount raced greenly throughout and failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure and ran to the line in a disappointing manner. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

I FEEL REAL – Jumped away awkwardly. Approaching the 500m was disappointed for a run to the outside of EURO NO GO ZONE, and as a result became awkwardly placed for a number of strides on the heels of that filly.

AMOREM – Overraced in the early and middle stages and became awkwardly placed on heels on entering the home straight.

GRAND TRICK – Hung in under pressure in the home straight.

POINTO’S PICK – Raced ungenerously throughout the event. Hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer J. Pointon was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of POINTO’S PICK in relation to hanging.

BEGS BELIEF – A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

EURO NO GO ZONE - A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.


Race 2: Jai Cor QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1100m

SPLENDID FUN – Jumped away awkwardly.

ALEYSA’S MIRACLE – Was contacted on jumping away.

INVESTIBLE – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early and middle stages.

KILKENNY LAD – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the straight.

PERFECT SAGA – Jumped away awkwardly.

NEW SECRET – Jumped away awkwardly. In the vicinity of the 900m raced in restricted room for a number of strides and had to be restrained to avoid the heels of KILKENNY LAD, which was carried in by CARRARA GOLD, which shifted in marginally. Jockey Z. White, rider of CARRARA GOLD, was reminded of her obligations to be clear when shifting ground in future. In the vicinity of the 200m had to take evasive action to avoid the heels of APOLOGY ACCEPTED, which was carried out by CARRARA GOLD, which was hampered.

FLYING BLONDE – In the vicinity of the 900m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of THE SWELL, which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey E. Smith, rider of THE SWELL, pleaded guilty to a charge under careless riding AR131(a) for shifting ground when insufficiently clear to do so and was suspended for a period of seven (7) days to commence midnight 21 May 2020 and to conclude midnight 28 May 2020. In the vicinity of the 200m when attempting to shift out to improve into clear running, was contacted on the hind quarters by CARRARA GOLD, who was contacted by APOLOGY ACCEPTED, and was inconvenienced.

CARRARA GOLD – In the vicinity of the 200m was buffeted between FLYING BLONDE, which shifted out, and APOLOGY ACCEPTED, which laid in, and as a result became awkward for a number of strides and shifted out abruptly.

NOT A SINGLE DAY – Overraced in the early and middle stages and in the vicinity of the 900m had to be restrained after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of NEW SECRET which was hampered. In the vicinity of the 200m was momentarily inconvenienced when avoiding the heels of NEW SECRET which was taking evasive action.

APOLOGY ACCEPTED – In the vicinity of the 200m laid in, contacting CARRARA GOLD, and as a result had its hind quarters turned and became awkward for a number of strides. Raced wide throughout.


Race 3: Jetson Salvage & Scrap Metal Maiden H’cap – 1300m

AZIOC – Proved difficult to proceed to the barriers. Trainer O. Cairns was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of AZIOC in relation to its pre-race manners.

TOP RUNG - Overraced in the early and middle stages.

BUWAN – Jumped away awkwardly.

NOTORIETY – Jumped away awkwardly.

GREAT LOOKER – Contacted on jumping away.

TICKET KEEPER – Overraced in the early and middle stages. In the vicinity of the 900m had to be restrained on a number of occasions after improving on to the heels of WREN PLUCKED.

JOMERA - Held up for clear running from the vicinity of the 200m to approaching the 100m.

TWISTED SUCCESS – Raced ungenerously throughout. Trainer F. Featherstone was advised that the horse would be required to trial tractably prior to any future race start.


Race 4: Laser Clinic Mackay Ratings Band 0-55 H’cap – 1050m

RAPTCHA’U – As S. Watkin was unable to make the weight, stewards permitted apprentice E. Smith to be substituted as the rider. As no rider was available at acceptances, S. Watkin was given permission to be declared overweight. Subsequently after scratching time, apprentice E. Smith became available and was substituted as she could make the weight.

SUCH A WHIT – Raced wide throughout. Rider A. Butler reported his mount hung out from the vicinity of the 600m and raced ungenerously when placed under pressure in the straight, placing him at a disadvantage over the concluding stages. Trainer T. Bannon was advised that SUCH A WHIT would be required to trial tractably in an official trial prior to any future race start.

MALVAGIO – Jumped away awkwardly and was hampered at the start. Was momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight.

FAVOR OF GOD – Jumped away awkwardly.

ROCKETHEAD – When questioned regarding the performance, jockey B. Appo stated that his mount raced extremely wide throughout the event. He added when placed under pressure on entering the home straight his mount failed to respond to his riding and ran to the line in a disappointing manner. Race 5: Leketek Ratings Band 0-55 H’cap – 1050m

Correct weight was delayed to allow jockey B. Appo, rider of 3rd placegetter, Goldies Archer, to view the photo-finish.

DUTCH ROCKET – Due to miscommunication, B. Pengelly was declared as the rider of the gelding. Apprentice E. Smith was subsequently permitted to replace B. Pengelly. B. Pengelly was reminded of his obligations in regards to accepting rides in future.

STELLA STARLITE – Slow into stride.

SIXES – Jumped away awkwardly.

MAGIC CODY – Overraced in the early stages. Jockey T. Bannon pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in she used her whip 7 times prior to the 100m, 22 in total, and was fined $200.

GOLDIE’S ARCHER – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

VAMPARINA – Was held up for clear running for a short distance in the vicinity of the 200m.

DUTCH ROCKET – Hung out throughout the event.


Race 6: Mackay Casino Nights Class 6 Plate – 1100m

FRATELLINO – Jumped away awkwardly.

ALL EEZ – Slow to begin. Laid out rounding the home turn and continued to lay out under pressure in the straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities

LAST CHANCE – . In the vicinity of the 900m had to be steadied after improving on to the heels of PRICKLES. Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight, and was obliged to shift in to improve into clear running

PRICKLES – Raced wide throughout.

CRAFTY COP – Hampered shortly after jumping away.

KAHUNA – Raced wide in the early stages.

SCORCHA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.




Race 7: Mackay Gaming Services Open H’cap – 1050m

CYCLINE FUGITIVE – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey B. Appo stated that after being trapped wide throughout the event his mount felt flat when placed under pressure . A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

PALLLADIAN – Hampered shortly after jumping away.

MARGOT – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

RED HOT ROMEO – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

JACK LANCASTER – Laid in under pressure in the straight.

FOUR EXCEL – Raced wide throughout.


Race 8: TAB Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1300m

TRERICE – Stewards acceded to a request from trainer M. Bannon for the late removal of a Norton Bit and tongue-tie. Trainer M. Bannon was subsequently fined $100 under AR206(2). Stood flatfooted as the start was effected and as a result was slow into stride. Trainer’s representative S. Nielson was advised that TRERICE would be required to jump with the field in an official barrier trial prior to any future race start.

PROANE – Slow to begin.

CINNAMON MISSILE – Slow to begin.

LEFKAS ISLAND – Overraced in the early and middle stages and laid in under pressure in the straight.

BROKEN FINGER – Raced wide throughout.

QUIDNI – Raced wide throughout.

CORPORAL – Raced wide throughout.

SHENRON – Jockey R. Oakford pleaded guilty to excessive use of the whip breach in that he used his whip on 8 occasions prior to the 100m (14 in total) and was reprimanded. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account R. Oakford’s excellent record in relation to whip breaches.

Race 9: MM Electrical Mackay Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1800m

RESINITE – Was declared a late scratching at 8.08 am due to no available rider who could make the weight.

DON’T DOUBT LARA – Raced ungenerously in the early in and middle stages.

ADDICTED – In the vicinity of the 1500m after the pace of the race was steadied, raced ungenerously for a number of strides and had to be restrained after improving onto the heels of CAPTAINS WAY.

CAPTAIN TOM – In the vicinity of the 1500m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of ADDICTED, which was racing ungenerously and as a result became awkward in its stride on a number of occasions.

ELLE A WALKING – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the straight.

HADRIAN – Was held up for clear running on entering the home straight.

FEATHER YOUR NEST – Laid out rounding the home turn and then laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SIR VAN DYKE – Raced wide throughout.


General

From Rockhampton, 5.5.20 – Ticket Keeper
Stewards concluded an inquiry into Jockey Martin Haley’s riding of Ticket keeper at Rockhampton on 5th May 2020. After examining betting records, taking further evidence, and considering Jockey Haley’s explanation that Ticket Keeper hung in severely which inhibited him from riding his mount out, stewards advised Jockey Haley that they felt that the ride bordered on being considered a breach of AR129(2). Stewards reminded Jockey Haley in future to ride in a manner that did not invite question and to ensure that his mounts are fully tested to obtain the best possible position in the race.
