Race 1:THE QUILPIE SHIRE COUNCIL BRANDON & ASSOCIATES
MAIDEN PLATE – 1100m
The start was delayed when OLD LIQUORICE had to be withdrawn from the barrier stalls after it broke its bridle. Due to no replacement bridle being at the start, OLD LIQUORICE was declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 1:23pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested in OLD LIQUORICE be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
23 cents in the dollar for the win - #1
21 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - #1
17 cents in the dollar for 2nd placegetter – #2
23 cents in the dollar for 3rd placegetter - #6
ZABCAN – Improved onto heels and knuckled leaving the 800m. Tailed off from the 800m taking no further competitive part in the event. When questioned regarding the performance Jockey R. Payne advised that after clipping heels at the 800m, the gelding resented the kick back and failed to travel for the remainder. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
RAPOSA – Raced wide without cover throughout.
No further racing incidents
Race 2:THE GREAT WESTERN TRUCKS CLASS B HANDICAP – 1100m
LENROY - Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
PLENTY OF WHITT – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
UNUSUAL AUNT – Raced wide without cover throughout.
EDDIEGATO – When questioned regarding the below market expectation performance, Jockey R. Tilley advised that after a point leaving the 600m the gelding failed to respond when placed under pressure and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have suffered a poor post-race recovery.
Race 3:THE ELDERS & COSTELLO MEMORIAL QTIS CLASS 4 PLATE – 1200m
UNSURE – Began awkwardly.
FIRST FAMILY – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground.
BOOM OR BUST – Began awkwardly.
BLUEY’S READY – Raced wide without cover throughout.
Race 4:THE QUILPIE DIGGERS RACE CLUB & DAVID EDWARDS MEMORIAL RATINGS BAND 0 - 50 HANDICAP – 1350m
LEROY ROCKS – Jockey M. Schrapel was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for his use of the whip prior to the 100m
PHONZIA – Began awkwardly.
ALL TOO SWEET – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout.
Race 5:THE NEIL MANSELL TPT QUILPIE NEWMARKET/
2021 BATTLE OF THE BUSH QUILPIE QUALIFIER OPEN PLATE – 1100m.
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable stewards to inquire into the reasons for Jockey P. Randall, the rider of HIGH COST, returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram underweight. After considering all the evidence, HIGH COST was subsequently disqualified from its first placing under the provisions of AR. 209(2)(a) when Jockey Randall weighed in in excess of half a kilogram underweight. At a subsequent inquiry, Jockey Randall was found guilty of a charge under AR. 209(2)(b) in that he returned to scale in excess of half a kilogram underweight when as the rider of HIGH COST. Jockey Randall’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 3 weeks, to commence midnight the 1st of May 2021 and to conclude midnight the 22nd May 2021. Jockey Randall was advised of his appeal rights. Stewards amended the placings accordingly.

Race 6:THE NEW STATE BUILDERS QUILPIE CUP BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP – 1586m
SHUDA KNOWN BETTER – Fractious in barrier. Slow to begin.
ITSALLKAY – Began awkwardly.
MASTER OF THE TURF – Raced three wide without cover during the middle stages.
