UTHRED – Correct weight was delayed when trainer T. Button requested to view the start of the race to ascertain if the horse was afforded a fair start. On review, stewards determined that it was afforded a fair start and correct weight was given. Fractious in the gates, then stood flatfooted as the start was effected, losing considerable ground and taking no competitive part in the event. Trainer T. Button was advised that the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next race start.

Race 6: B&J Carsales RQ Summer Provincial Series Heat Open H’cap – 1300m

On return to scale jockey N. Day, rider of TAMBO’S HEART, and jockey J. Stanley, rider of JOHNNY BE QUICK, requested  a review of the start of the race to determine if their mounts were afforded fair starts. Stewards when assessing if jockey Day’s mount was afforded a fair start and after viewing the film, noted that his mount was facing the gate as the start was effected and that whilst it began awkwardly and did lose ground, stewards were satisfied that it was afforded a fair start.

Stewards when considering the request of jockey Stanley and reviewing the official film were satisfied that his mount was not afforded a fair start and appeared to be held by an attendant as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Stewards, acting under the provisions of AR134A(c), declared JOHNNY BE QUICK a non-runner, with the following deductions applicable.

24 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
9 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets for the place
22 Cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets
32 Cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rd place bets.

LEGAL STATURE – Raced 3 wide for the majority of the race. Held up between the 600m and 400m before shifting from a position wider on the course closer to the rail in an attempt to obtain clear running. Apprentice Z. White, rider of LEGAL STATURE, was charged pursuant to AR137(a) and formally found guilty in that when leaving the 400m she permitted her mount to shift in several horses, crossing in advance of SHADEA LADY when not sufficiently clear, causing that runner to shift in and away, thus tightening the running of JABBS, causing it to be checked and lose its position. Stewards after considering penalty and reviewing apprentice Z. White’s riding record, suspended her licence to ride in races for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight, 29 November and to expire at midnight, Friday, 7 December
