Supplementary Report – 08/12/18 Rockhampton Race 4

QRIC Stewards today concluded their inquires into the circumstances surrounding SAY PLEASE and RECONIS both falling shortly after passing the winning post. Initial evidence was taken on the day from M. Gray, rider of PRESCRIPTION, D. Evans, LENNON’S PADDOCK and N. Summers, RECONIS. Further evidence was taken from M. Milford, rider of SAY PLEASE. Stewards established that after passing the winning post, PRESCRIPTION had shifted in onto the rail whilst Jockey Gray had commenced to ease his mount. Jockey Milford which was under hard riding to the winning post improved quickly and then when attempting to avoid the heels of PRESCRIPTION shifted out and clipped the heels of PRESCRIPTION and fell. RECONIS which was following struck the fallen SAY PLEASE and fell. As Stewards were of the view that this incident was not due to any carelessness of any one rider they took the matter no further.
C Albrecht.

MR PHENOMENAL – Slow into stride and bumped shortly after. Held up approaching the 200m and was unable to obtain a clear run in the concluding stages.  When questioned regarding her ride, jockey C. Jokic advised that her instructions were to race in a forward position however, after the gelding was slow to begin and bumped shortly after it failed to muster early speed. Miss Jokic then elected to ease to a trailing position rather than push forward and possibly be caught wide on the track. Jockey Jokic then added approaching the home turn and when placed under pressure she elected to search for inside runs rather than ease to the outside of MAEVE IN MANHATTAN. Stewards after considering the explanation tendered by Miss Jokic were of the view that she may have erred by not improving wider on the course upon entering the home straight and noted her explanation.

MR ATTITUDE – Began awkwardly and tightened between MR PHENOMENAL and MAEVE IN MANHATTAN. Stewards inquired into an incident near the 200m where TATOI was heavily bumped and became unbalanced. After taking evidence from D Hayse, L Tilley and D Evans it was determined that  D Evans (MR ATTITUDE), which was trailing on the heels of DUANSKILL, then elected to shift to the inside and attempt a run between TATOI and DUANSKILL resulting in TATOI being heavily bumped, pushed off stride and forced inward. Jockey Evans was charged and formally found guilty pursuant to AR 137 (a) in that he was careless in attempting a run between TATOI and DUANSKILL when there was insufficient room to do so safely thus causing significant interference to TATOI. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account his reasonably good riding record, however deemed the interference to TATOI to be excessive and in the high range. Jockey Evans licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 15 days, to commence at midnight, 31 December and to expire at midnight, 15 January.
