SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS
 
From Rockhampton 7th July 2020 – Race 2
 
Rider Justin Stanley (BEACH ROAD) plead guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip 9 times prior to the 100m and 16 in total and was fined $300. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account jockey Stanley’s guilty plea, his exemplary record and the fact BEACH ROAD had won the race.
 
Trainer Tony McMahon advised that BETHIA had bled from both nostrils following trackwork at Callaghan Park on 18th July 2020. Mr McMahon was advised of the provisions of AR79(4).
 
 
GENERAL
 
CHEVY NOVA, LORD LAURIE and EXELANT MOSH all underwent pre race veterinary examinations after competing in the past seven days and were passed fit to start.
 
Trainer J. Wehlow pleaded guilty to a charge under AR104(1) in that he failed to keep an up to date treatment record book on request during a stewards stable inspection. Mr Wehlow was fined the sum of $200 and was further advised that this was a requirement under the Rules of Racing and a condition of his licence to train thoroughbred horses.

Race 1: RJC MEMBERS APPRECIATION MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M
 
FIOERTICAL – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey B Appo stated that he was instructed to be more positive but the horse didn’t show early gate speed to do so and as a result, raced further back than intended. He added that although the horse travelled well throughout, when asked for an effort, it failed to respond to his riding and went to the line in a disappointing manner. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
MONSIEUR JACK – Raced greenly with its head up in the early stages of the event.
 
STUBAI –  Jockey A Butler pleaded guilty to a charge of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip 10 times prior to the 100m and 12 in total and was suspended for a period of 9 days to begin on 26th July and to expire on 4th August 2020. In determining penalty, stewards took into account A Butler’s poor record and the fact he has just returned from a previous whip suspension.
 
OTTONIAN – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider J Bayliss stated after being trapped three wide with cover throughout and overracing in the early stages, when asked for a finishing effort in the home straight, his mount failed to respond to his riding and ran to the line in a disappointing manner. A post race veterinarian examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
A GIRL LIKE ALICE – Raced wide throughout.
 
SCANDINA – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Jockey G Geran plead guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip 8 times prior to the 100m and 12 in total and was fined $200
 
WINDCHILL – Declared a late scratching at 11.59am on veterinary advice after dislodging its jockey in the preliminary and galloping a significant distance. Following the event, all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable:
 
25 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
19 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets for the win
24 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets
15 cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rd place bets
 
Race 2: RJC CLUB 150 MEMBERS APPRECIATION QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD HCP – 1300M
 
STARFILLY – Jumped away awkwardly and became awkward for a number of strides. Jockey L Tilley stated after beginning awkwardly his mount overraced in the early and middle stages and as a result, failed to show its usually finishing effort. Trainer A Coome was advised a warning would be placed on the record of the filly in regards to its barrier manners. Trainer A Coome reported that STARFILLY would now be sent for an immediate spell.
 
THE CROW MAN – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
SHEMADEMEDOIT – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MATAGORDA – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
SILVER LUCY – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the filly, which was well supported in the market, jockey S Wiseman could offer no tangible explanation for the poor performance and stated that the filly is better suited to a track with more give. Trainer L Rowe concurred with the assessment of jockey Wiseman that SILVER LUCY is better suited to a rain affected track. A post race veterinary examination revealed minor lacerations to off fore leg. Trainer L Rowe undertook to report back on the condition of the filly in the days subsequent.
 
Race 3: 2021 CAPRICORNIA YEARLING SALES BM58 HCP – 1600M
 
ROYAL ATOM – Slow to begin
 
ALOOF’S TURF – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey A Butler stated after knuckling on jumping and shifting out abruptly, he settled further back than intended. He added that although he travelled well in the early and middle stages, when asking for a finish effort on straightening, his mount weakened noticeably and ran to the line in a disappointing manner. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
BROMES – Jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin. Shortly after jumping away was tightened for room between ALOOF’S TURF which shifted in abruptly on jumping and NORTH AFRIKA and had to be steadied as a result.
 
NIATROSS – Slow to begin.
 
AUSSIE TYCOON – Jumped awkwardly making contact with the barrier partition.
 
Race 4: PHIL PEEL LEADING EDGE JEWELLERS CLASS 5 HCP – 1200M
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow jockey C Whiteley and trainer J McConachy to view the stewards vision to ascertain whether EYEBEA DANSER was afforded a fair start. After viewing the footage, it was ascertained that the outside barrier partition failed to open as the start was effected, which caused EYEBEA DANSER to force the gate open and as a result was disadvantaged. After submissions from borth Jockey and rider, EYEBEA DANSER was declared a non-runner and prior to declaration of correct weight, all monies invested were to be returned with the following deductions applicable.
 
6 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
5 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets for the win
10 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets
9 cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rd place bets
 
Following the running of race 4, the barriers were examined which found a foam seal which is part of the safety mechanism to the outside gate had become lodged which caused the gate to not open as the start was effected. Remedial work was conducted on the gate and was successfully tested prior to the running of race 5.
 
ONLY WANNA SING – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
EXTREME WITNESS – A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
CHEVY NOVA – In the vicinity of the 1000m, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of ALL PICKLED, which shifted in when insufficiently clear to do so. An inquiry into the matter was adjourned at a date to be fixed.
 
LEVEL EIGHT – Jumped away awkwardly and slow away as a result. In the vicinity of the 300m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of LORD LAURIE which shifted out when insufficiently clear to do so. Jockey S Wiseman, rider of LORD LAURIE, plead guilty to a charge of careless riding for allowing her mount to shift ground when insufficiently clear to do so and was suspended for a period of 7 days to begin on 26TH July 2020 and to expire on August 2nd 2020. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Wisemans’ guilty plea and exemplary record.
 
CHEZBLACK – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
PARISIAN TYCOON – Laid in under pressure in the straight. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey L Tilley stated that his mount was trapped wide and not able to settle throughout. He added that the horse ran to the line in a disappointing manner. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
SCORCHA – In the vicinity of the 1000m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ALL PICKLED, which shifted in when insufficiently clear.
 
ALL PICKLED – Jumped away awkwardly shifting in abruptly.
 
LORD LAURIE – Jumped awkwardly.
 
Race 5: CLAUDE GREEN MEMORIAL CLASS 1 HCP – 1100M
 
BAUHINIA TED – Rider J Stanley reported that his mount hung out throughout the event proving difficult to ride.
 
BELASTRO – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
CALCULATED RISK – Held up for clear running approaching the 300m and had to shift out to obtain clear running and in doing so, contacted LUCKY BEE.
 
NINEONEONE – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 800m, hung out and ran off rounding the turn, placing its rider at a severe disadvantage. Trainer A Coome was advised that NINEONEONE would be required to trial tractably prior to a future race start.
 
LUCKY BEE – Hung out rounding the home turn. Was momentarily held up for clear running approaching the 400m. In the vicinity of the 300m was inconvenienced by CALCULATED RISK which shifted out to improve
 
SUPER KIDS – Jumped away awkwardly. Ran off rounding the home turn placing its rider at a disadvantage. Trainer J Lancaster was advised that SUPER KIDS would be required to trial tractably prior to its next start. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
EXELANT MOSH – Had to shift out to avoid the heels of the weakening ALEYSA’S MIRACLE inside the 100m.
 
PERFECT TIMES – Stood flatfooted as the start was effected. Trainer K Miller was advised that PERFECT TIMES would need to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to its next start.
 
Race 6: MAGIC MILLIONS CAPRICORNIA 3YO GUINEAS – 1500M
 
HEY PAL – When questioned regarding HEY PAL leading in today’s event, trainer C Taylor stated that HEY PAL has a tendency of being slow to begin and from today’s wide barrier advised jockey A Butler to assess his settling position depending on how the gelding jumped in the event. He added it was his intentions to experiment with the gear and distance of HEY PAL in future to assist with the gelding’s finishing efforts. Stewards noted the explanation. A post race veterinary examination revealed slight nasal discharge
 
TEARS OF LOVE- Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
BANTU BAY – When questioned regarding the poor performance, jockey S Wiseman stated the gelding travelled well throughout, however weakened noticeably over the concluding stages and went to the line in a disappointing manner. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
VALADYIUM – Overraced in the early stages.
 
SVINDAL – Raced wide throughout.
 
REDSTONE – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide throughout.
 
POGO – In the vicinity of the 1200m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of DAWSON DELIGHT which shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider.
 
Race 7: BULL MASTERS CLASS 3 PLATE – 1400M
 
ANCIENT ECHOES – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow as a result. Hung in under pressure in the straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
FINUCANE MISSILE- Slow to begin.
 
BESTERS – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
DON’T DOUBT MAEVE – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
 
LIBERTY’S GIFT – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running from the vicinity of the 500m to the 400m and raced in restricted from that point till inside the 200m.
 
SAINT BARTS – Slow into stride. Laid in under pressure in the home straight,
 
FIGHT THE KNEAD – Raced in restricted room for the majority of the straight and approaching the 100m, becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of LIBERTY’S GIFT and was unable to be fully tested as a result.
 
Race 8: QTISX 2020 TAB ROCKHAMPTON CUP – 1600M
 
BALBOA ROCKS – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey A Butler stated his mount travelled well throughout the event but when placed under pressure from the 800m his mount failed to respond to his riding and ran to the line in a disappointing manner. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
MAGSTOCK – Overraced in the early stages when attempting to shift in to find cover. Race wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
HEYINGTON – Slow to begin.
 
PROANE – Slow to begin
 
ELLE A WALKING – Slow to begin.
 
KINGS COUNTY – Rider reported approaching the 1100m when attempting to settle her mount, the gelding took charge and ran off rounding the home turn.
 
Race 9: QTISX 2020 XXXX GOLD ROCKHAMPTON NEWMARKET – 1200M
 
INQUIRY – Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the 100m by DOCTOR ZOUS which laid in under pressure. Rider reported that he could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. He added that his mount travelled well throughout but weakened noticeably over the concluding stages. Trainer J Wehlow advised would report back on the condition of INQUIRY over coming days.
 
RAIDEN – Raced wide throughout the event. Rider reported that he could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance but when placed under pressure in the straight RAIDEN failed to show its usual finishing efforts. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
MASTER JAMIE – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, Jockey L Tilley stated that Master Jamie had to work harder then expected in the early stages after being headed by INQUIRY from the 800m and as such weakened noticeably over the concluding stages. Trainer G Green stated that he would monitor the gelding over the coming days and would report back on the condition of MASTER JAMIE over the coming days. He added that should MASTER JAMIE pull up well he would look to start the gelding in the Cleveland Bay at Townsville on 14th August 2020.
 
DOCTOR ZOUS – Laid in under pressure in the straight. Stewards intend to inquire into Jockey Bayliss’ use of the whip in the straight.
 
FOMO – Approaching the 400m became awkward in its stride and dislodged it’s rider. Following the running of this event a post race veterinary examination revealed a complete fracture of the near fore fetlock and was humanely euthanised by the veterinary surgeon. Stewards ordered post-mortem samples to be taken.
 
CONCA DEL SOGNO – Approaching the 400m, had to take evasive action to avoid the heels of FOMO. Following the running of this event on pulling up, the gelding collapsed and suffered a heart attack. The gelding was humanely euthanised by the veterinary surgeon and stewards ordered post-mortem samples were taken.
 
THE BAKER – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
FRIENDLY DRAGON – Jockey B Appo returned to scale in excess of half a kilogram overweight and was fined $300.
