Race 1: PERRY’S SUNSHINE COAST EVENT HIRE CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1600M
 
Stewards accepted trainer L. Gough’s explanation for failing to declare J. Lloyd as the rider of SHINNECOCK by the prescribed time.
 
DEEP BLUE SEA – Trainer M. Costa advised that the horse would be ridden more forward today and would attempt to lead. The horse was ridden accordingly.
 
SHINNECOCK – Raced three wide in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward outside the lead passing the 900m.
 
VOLOMITE – Had some difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
 
Race 2: COASTAL STYLE CONSTRUCTIONS CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1000M
 
BACK CHAT was a late scratching at 9:50 am for veterinary reasons.
 
VOUCH FOR ME – Restrained from its wide alley at the start to take up a position at the tail of the field.
 
LANCASTER BOMBER – Underwent a veterinary examination due to having sustained a minor injury to the off hind leg which occurred in transit and was cleared to start. A further veterinary examination at the barriers also cleared the colt to start. Raced three wide without cover throughout the event.
 
LOVE SQUIRRELS – Slow to begin.
 
SOLO MELODY – R. Stewart reported that his mount did not muster any early speed and was disappointing in the run to the line.
 
ORLEANS – Lost the off fore plate in running.
 
Race 3: LOVE & PARTNERS CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M
 
COMBAT KID – Jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with the barrier partition.
 
COMOGLI – Raced wide without cover.
 
EMOTIVE MOUNTAIN – Obliged to race in restricted room after leaving the 600m and became unbalanced as a result. Became awkward when placed in restricted room near the 150m.
 
LAST EDITION – Overraced in the early stages and had to be restrained from heels. Improved on to heels leaving the 600m and was obliged to shift out to improve.
 
SHANAHAN – Raced greenly and lost ground leaving the 600m. Laid in in the straight. Rider M. Murphy reported that in his opinion the colt failed to stretch out over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer C. Munce was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s racing manners.
 
SMART METEOR – Raced wide throughout. D. Griffin was reprimanded for his use of the whip prior to the 100m.
 
KASITA – Jumped awkwardly and lost significant ground. Raced greenly throughout.
 
MADAME TESS – Jumped awkwardly, inconveniencing another runner. Obliged to check from heels after passing the 600m.
 
REGAL ROMANCE – Jumped awkwardly and lost significant ground. J. Lloyd reported that after beginning awkwardly his mount was under pressure for the majority of the event and proved disappointing in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer G. Hickman confirmed that the horse would now be sent for an immediate spell.
 
SAY HAYA – Tightened for room and lost ground at the start.
 
Race 4: NIGHTOWL CALOUNDRA MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
 
NARDA SHAR – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
 
FINAL ORDER – Checked when tightened for room approaching the 850m. G. Geran, the rider of NORMA MAY, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that after passing the 1000m he restrained his mount and then allowed the gelding to shift in when not clear of FINAL ORDER and TAHITIAN FLYER, which resulted in FINAL ORDER having to be checked when tightened for room approaching the 850m when 9 MAY shifted in to a one-off position. G. Geran’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 20 January and expire at midnight on Tuesday 29 January 2019. In determining penalty stewards took into account jockey Geran’s good record and that the interference was mid range and the carelessness was low range.
 
IMAY SHOUT – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Steadied from heels near the 600m.
 
TAHITIAN FLYER – Steadied from heels when the pace slackened near the 850m. M. Cahill, the rider of DER SIEGER was advised to exercise care when steadying the pace in the future. Placed in restricted room near the 600m and had to be steadied.
 
BEST FOOT FORWARD – Steadied at the 600m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
COCO FASHION – Checked near the 850m to avoid heels.
 
MONASHEE MUSIC – Raced ungenerously for a short distance after the start and when three wide near the 800m was pressured to stride forward to obtain a position outside the lead after passing the 600m.
 
Race 5: Q ADVERTISING BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 2200M
 
SHAKOPEE – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages to obtain cover. Overraced in the middle stages when the pace slackened passing the 1200m.
 
HAPPY SOUL – Pulled up very quickly after passing the winning post. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have strained the off fore tendon. Connections were advised that they must provide a veterinary clearance for the horse prior to starting again. Trainer K. Purdy indicated that the horse would more than likely be retired from racing.
 
TRAVISTEE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
FIRST STIMULUS – Slow to begin.
 
CANONGATE – Slow to begin. Caught three wide in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward to assume the lead passing the 1500m.
 
SUBSOLAR – The veterinary surgeon reported that the horse returned to the enclosure with minor lacerations to the near hind leg.
 
ROMAN DOLL – Shifted out to improve near the 500m and made heavy contact with another runner.
 
SKYTASTIC – Slow to begin.
 
MAQUEREAU – Bumped by another runner and forced wider near the 500m.
 
Race 6: MEREDITH KITCHENS BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1200M
 
Trainer L. Hatch was fined $100 for failing to declare J. Lloyd as the rider of ROUGH EDDIE by the prescribed time.
 
Trainer B. Currie was fined $200 for failing to scratch NOW YOU SEE by the prescribed time.
 
NATURAL BLACK, which underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers at the request of the rider and was found to be lame in the off foreleg, was declared a late scratching at 5:11 pm. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on NATURAL BLACK be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 5:11 pm:

4 cents in the dollar for the win #2
6 cents in the dollar for place of winner #2
5 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #4
8 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #9
 
Connections were advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
MANA – Overraced in the early stages and then raced three wide from the 700m.
 
FAST ARROW – Significantly slow to begin.
 
FEW TOO MANY – Hung out after passing the 800m until near the 500m. R. Stewart reported that he was disappointed with the gelding’s performance and indicated that the stable, in light of today’s performance, would be sending the horse for a spell. Trainer B. Ahrens confirmed that the horse would be sent for a spell.
 
Race 7: SOUTH EAST CIVIL CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M
 
Trainer B. Currie was fined $200 for failing to scratch SKIPPER’S CALL by the prescribed time.
 
DESTINY’S CHOICE – Bumped by another runner near the 500m and forced wider. When asked to comment, jockey M. Cahill indicated that his instructions were to lead, and after settling outside the lead and travelled comfortably until the home turn when the horse became awkward in its action and commenced to weaken badly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer A. Williamson advised that in light of today’s performance he will consider placing the tongue tie back on the horse for its next start, however will send the horse for a spell following today’s performance.

CHINCHINBILLA – Bumped by another runner and forced wider on the track near the 850m and again near the 600m. Forced wider near the 500m.
 
PHOENIX GLOBAL – Overraced badly after being crossed by another runner near the 900m and shifted out, inconveniencing other runners, then continued to overrace and shifted to a three wide position passing the 600m. Forced wider near the 500m.
 
REBEL SAGA – Bumped and forced wider on the track near the 850m and again near the 600m. Forced wider near the 500m.
 
RAINS APLENTY – Slow to begin.
 
ROCK DANCER – Slow to begin. L. Cassidy reported that his mount hung out throughout the event, placing him at some disadvantage in the home straight.
 
FAST VISION – As the tongue tie could not be fitted, the horse raced without that gear.
 
LONHRO MAGIC – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg. Trainer T. Miller was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
