Due to a misunderstanding  M. Du Plessis was notified as the rider of The Orange Muppet in Race 1 and as the rider of GET ON in Race 6  when  he was  not riding at today’s meeting, and as   T. Williams was injured and not riding today, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Race 1:  North Shore Realty Maiden H’cap – 1000m
 
VINTAGE MODEL – Began awkwardly.
 
HINANO – Began awkwardly. Passing the 100m was inconvenienced when racing to the inside of SONO DOLCE and to the outside of WHITTINGTON WAYS, which shifted out. Then approaching the winning post was unable to be fully tested when awkwardly placed at the heels of SONO DOLCE. Apprentice A. Thompson, rider of WHITTINGTON WAYS, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
 
WHITTINGTON WAYS – Began awkwardly before mustering speed to race in a forward position. Raced greenly in the home straight and laid out under pressure.  
 
SONO DOLCE – Began awkwardly.
 
PUMPKIN DIAMOND – After passing the 400m had to be steadied away from the heels of ALLOFIT, which shifted out and altered course back to the inside to obtain clear running.
 
CREDITWORTHY – Raced 3 wide with cover.
 
FORENSIC AUDITOR – Raced 4 wide without cover.
 
 
Race 2: Paddy Walsh Painting Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1000m
 
SISTER KITTY -  Declared a late scratching at 9.30 pm of veterinary advice.
 
After all runners were loaded, ROTHABYE lunged at the barrier and broke its gate open.  Simultaneously SHE’S A MITZY also lunged at the barriers and broke its gate open.  ROTHABYE was restrained by its rider and taken back to the start, examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared unfit to race, which revealed lacerations to the horse’s muzzle. SHE’S A MITZY, after breaking through the gates dislodged it rider and galloped riderless for a considerable distance.  Both horses were declared late scratchings at 1.29 pm with the following deductions applicable.   
 
14 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
12 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets for the place
42 cents  in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets
28 cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rd place bets
 
WINNING SHOT – Passing the 700m had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of EXACTAMENTE, which shifted in.
 
BOUNTY HUNTER – Passing the 700m had to be steadied and lost ground when cramped for room by WINNING SHOT, which was taken in by EXACTAMENTE. Jockey L. Dittman, rider of EXACTAMENTE, was issued with  a reprimand under AR131(a) for shifting ground when not fully clear.
 
MAGIC INK – Passing the 700m had to be steadied away from the heels of BOUNTY HUNTER. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 3:  Marcoola Surf Club Class 2 Plate – 1600m
 
PARIS CRYSTAL – Began awkwardly.
 
CHARLOTTE’S GIRL – Bumped on jumping away.
 
STARLIGHTER – After passing the 1000m when the pace steadied, commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from heels.
 
POWER FROM WITHIN – Raced 3 wide without cover.
 
LUCY LE ROC – Raced 3 wide with cover.
 
TOP GLAMOUR – Cast its near fore plate in running.
 
 
Race 4: Marcoola SLSC Nippers Maiden Plate – 1400m
 
HIGH I CUE – After slipping over in the tie-up stalls was examined by the veterinary surgeon and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly.
 
THOMAS BENJAMIN – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 1100m had to be steadied when crowded for room by CHAINSMOKER, which shifted in when not fully clear.  Jockey B. Pengelly, rider of CHAINSMOKER, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.  After passing the 600m raced in restricted room for a short distance to the inside of GOLDEN BASIL, which laid in. Laid out under pressure passing the 200m, causing its rider to stop riding and straighten.
 
GOLDEN BASIL – Bumped on jumping away.
 
GILDED INSTINCT – Began awkwardly.
 
MAJOR OAK – Began awkwardly and then was bumped shortly after.
 
 
Race 5:  Marcoola Youth QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate – 1400m
 
SISTER KATHLEEN – Change of tactics. Connections advised that the horse would be ridden further back if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
JOE ALBERT – Began awkwardly, then blundered and lost considerable ground.  Jockey R. Wiggins suffered an injury to his left hand during the race, and was examined by the club doctor and cleared  of any injury.  
 
BETTER THAN GROOVY – Slow to begin. After passing the 200m was hampered and forced wider by ROMAN AUREUS, which laid out.
 
DECEBALUS – Began awkwardly. Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.
 
AL JOOD – Began awkwardly.  Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Passing the 900m laid in and became awkwardly placed at heels of ROMAN AUREUS.  Passing the 100m bumped when HOLLY RUN shifted out resulting in M. Cahill, rider of AL JOOD,  not being able to use his whip to full advantage.  Cast its off fore plate in running.
 
ROMAN AUREUS – After passing the 200m laid out under pressure, causing its rider to stop riding.
 
HOLLY RUN – After passing the 100m  shifted out and  bumped AL JOOD.  
 
HOWITZER – Raced wide with cover.
 
 
 
 
Race 6:  Marcoola Surf Boats Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1400m
 
GET OUTA UTAH – Slow to begin.
 
TREASURE GALLERY – Began awkwardly. When racing in a rearward positon between runners overraced and threw its head up on a number of occasions after passing the 800m. Stewards questioned jockey T. Harrison as to her tactics adopted approaching the home turn where there may have been an opportunity to improve between runners. Jockey Harrison explained her intention was to remain in a trailing position until rounding the home turn and then look to secure clear running to the outside, which the mare’s appreciates and is its usual racing pattern. Stewards noted the explanation of T. Harrison.
 
ROULETTE ROYAL – Bumped on jumping.
 
DRUMS JEWEL – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
 
Race 7:  Marcoola Surf Life Saving Club Class 5 H’cap – 1200m
 
COUNTESS MIA – Began awkwardly.  After passing the 300m had some difficulty securing clear running  until passing the 200m.
 
EXCEEDINGLY – Bumped on the hind quarters shortly after the start.
 
PORTION CONTROL – Began awkwardly.
 
SISTER PATTI – After beginning well from a wide barrier was allowed to stride forward without pressure, and after passing the 900m when positioned outside the leader commenced to hang out, placing its rider at a disadvantage. 
 
COPYWRITER – Rounding the home turn was held up for clear running.  Passing the 400m was disappointed for a run to the outside of SISTER PATTI and inside VALARIO, and then was still unable to secure clear running until passing the 200m.
 
HELFUCHI – Held up for clear running approaching the 300m  until obtaining clear running near the 100m.
 
Race 8:  Marcoola 50 Years Class 1 Plate – 1200m
 
BULLTRUCK – Began awkwardly. Passing the 400m was bumped and became unbalanced by HI ZERO, which hung out.
 
SMARTCELLI  - Slow to begin.
 
MELBERN QUEENS – After passing the 900m commenced to lay out and did so for the remainder of the event.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.  Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s racing manners.
