He stated that the horse’s form had improved at its’ most recent two starts when able to settle in a forward position. He was therefore not surprised when the horse was able to obtain the lead and set a favourable pace during the early and middle stages, that the horse finished the race off strongly. He added that he had expected, on the horse’s recent form, a forward showing in today’s event.

SAGRE’S POINT – Stewards inquired into the reasons for the horse having to be checked near the 1600m.  After taking evidence from the riders involved it was established that RIVER OF LOVE , which was racing to the inside, had shifted out slight when steadying from the heels of DEE CEE DELIGHT.  At the same point of the race it was established CLASSIC  PEARL had shifted in, tightening the running of  SAGRE’S POINT after having been taken in by LET’S CONQUER, which  hung in despite the efforts of its rider. After taking into account  the evidence of the riders, stewards advised jockey A. Thompson, rider of DEE CEE DELIGHTS, that in similar circumstances he should not steady his mount as significantly as he did in this instance, however were not satisfied that his actions contributed solely to this incident and took no further action.

SHE’S A MITZY – Jockey M. Du Plessis replaced jockey A. Fancourt. Stewards inquired into the circumstances which caused SHE’S A MITZY  to blunder and fall after passing the 200m. After taking evidence from the riders involved, stewards established  that SHE’S A MITZY had been bumped by THE SINNER near the 300m and from that point onwards, raced in restricted room to the inside of OUTBACK STORM until a point near the 200m  when the running of  SHE’S A MITZY’S  was further tightened by THE SINNER, which shifted out whilst attempting to avoid the heels of SEEYARON, which was weakening. In this incident, SEEYARON, whilst weakening, shifted out abruptly after being brushed by TRUCULENT, which had shifted out to obtain clear running.  Given the circumstances, stewards could not be satisfied any rider had demonstrated carelessness and took no further action.  Jockey M. Du Plessis was stood down from his remaining engagements and advised to provide a doctor’s certificate prior to riding again.
