GENERAL
 
After receiving a report from the QRIC Integrity Investigative Team following a morning stable inspection, Stewards opened an inquiry with trainer Paul Duncan in relation to the treatment of GALAXY GURU, in particular an injection being administered within one clear day. After taking evidence from Paul Duncan, and acting under AR254(2), Stewards were satisfied the gelding had been injected within one clear day and withdrew the GALAXY GURU from Race 2 at 12.00pm. Stewards adjourned an inquiry to a date to be fixed and swab samples of GALAXY GURU were taken for analysis.
 
 
Race 1:  BATHERSBY LEGAL Maiden Plate - 2200 metres:
 
MULRONEY (NZ) – Apprentice N Fazackerley dropped his whip at the 100m.
 
 
Race 2: ACCESS INSULATION SUNSHINE COAST BENCHMARK 65 Handicap - 1800 metres:
 
BETTER ETHICS – Performed below market expectations; rider J Bayliss stated the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer N McCall was of the opinion that BETTER ETHICS may not have been suited to leading in today’s event and would consider spelling the gelding in the ensuing days. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities and a post-race swab sample was taken for analysis.
 
BRONZEGATE (NZ) – Bounded at the start and lost ground.
 
 
Race 3: XXXX DRY Class 4 Plate - 1600 metres:
 
BERING SEA – Cast a hind plate in the stall area pre-race and as the plate was unable to be refitted, Stewards ordered the removal of both hind plates and granted permission for the gelding to race bare foot behind. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the start and was passed suitable to start. Beaten $1.40 favourite; rider R Maloney stated in his opinion the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer D Vandyke advised Stewards the gelding would now be spelled. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities and a post-race swab sample was taken for analysis.
 
HOT SOCK – Over raced in the middle stages.
 
 
Race 4: PFD FOODSERVICES Class 3 Handicap - 1000 metres:
 
INVINCORE – Raced keen in the early stages.
 
BLUE ODYSSEY – Bumped at the start. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
AIR SPIRIT – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped BLUE ODYSSEY. In the home straight laid in.
 
 
Race 5: TAB Class 1 Handicap - 1600 metres:
 
ATYAAF – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BRING ME SHOWERS – Near the 300m was steadied when inconvenienced by ATYAAF which shifted in under pressure.
 
LET'S CONQUER – Performed below market expectations. Rider B Thompson reported the gelding made an abnormal respiratory noise over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
PUNCTUALITY – Tactics queried, settled further back than most recent start. Apprentice W Peel stated that after beginning slightly awkward, she elected to be neutral on the mare and as a result settled further back.
 
QUEEN OF THE NIGHT – Late Scratching at 2:46pm due to being a non-arrival. Trainer M Reynolds was questioned in relation to the matter and advised Stewards that the mare had injured its off hind leg after official scratching time (7.30am) and he had contacted Racing Australia to advise that the mare would be a late scratching on veterinary advice. Stewards confirmed with Racing Australia. Trainer M Reynolds was notified the he will be required to provide a veterinary clearance prior to the horse racing again.
 
Jockey D Smith was examined by the Club’s Doctor following his ride in this event and was stood down from his remaining ride.
 
Race 6: PARKLANDS TAVERN QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres:
 
BOHEMIAN BOOM – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped LA FURIOSO and as a result became unbalanced. In the early stages over-raced and laid in. In the home straight hung in when weakening before being eased down over the concluding stages. Rider S Thornton stated the gelding made an abnormal respiratory noise. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A stable representative of trainer R Heathcote advised the gelding would undergo an endoscopic examination in the ensuing days, and they would advise QRIC Stewards of the results.
 
CRYPTO TYCOON – Began awkwardly. Rider R Maloney reported the gelding raced greenly.
 
A GOOD CHANCE – Change of tactics, to be ridden with cover; was ridden accordingly. Raced greenly throughout. Apprentice M Wishart reported the gelding hung out for the majority of the event.
 
COOL INTELLIGENCE – After taking charge of its rider en route to the barriers and contacting the outside running rail, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3:53pm. All monies bet for a win and/or place betting on the late scratching to be refunded. All successful bets on horses prior to time of withdrawal are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket:
Win Bets - Dash For Dreams - 2 cents
Place Bets (For Winner)  - 8 cents
Place Bets (For 2nd)-  Crypto Tycoon - 1 cent
Place Bets (For 3rd) -  Belistic Man - 9 cents
*All monies bet after the Stewards declaration of withdrawal to be paid at face value of ticket.
 
DASH FOR DREAMS – Near the 600m was awkwardly placed close to the heels of WINN’EM. Near the 400m shifted out to improve and bumped TOUCH OF BALI.
 
LA FURIOSO – Tightened at the start between I AM SUPERIOR and BOHEMIAN BOOM which shifted in.
 
WINN'EM – Held up between 500m until passing the 300m.
 
BELISTIC MAN – Slow to begin.
 
TOUCH OF BALI – Raced wide with cover throughout. Bumped near the 400m by DASH FOR DREAMS.
 
SIZZLING RIVER – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
 
Race 7: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS Fillies & Mares RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 Handicap - 1200 metres:
 
The start was delayed by 3 minutes due to the farrier having to refit the off hind plate of STAR BARISTA.
 
SIMPLY SO – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Pulled hard in the early and middle stages. Near the 800m was checked and shifted out away from the heels of CLAIRVUE MISSY. Held up rounding the home turn. After passing the 400m shifted out to improve and bumped ARQUERA.
 
CLAIRVUE MISSY – Approaching the 500m was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TOUJOURS L’AMOUR. Held up for the entire home straight and went to the line without being tested. Rider M McGillivray was questioned in relation to his riding of the mare in the home straight and he stated that he was unable to improve rounding the home turn as MAIN DE FOI was racing to his outside and in advance of him. He further added that in the straight, after electing to maintain a position behind STAR BARISTA, he was unable to shift out to obtain clear running as his mount had improved to the inside of the heels of NORM’S CHOICE.
 
ARQUERA – Near the 800m carried wider by SIMPLY SO which shifted out.
 
 
Race 8: YALUMBA WINES Colts, Geldings & Entires RATINGS BAND 0 - 62 Handicap - 1200 metres:
 
SIR MAGIC – Held up rounding the home turn and the early part of the home straight.
 
THE GOLDEN HIND (NZ) – Jockey B Thompson reported his mount would be better suited over further distances than today’s event.
 
BOUNTY HUNTER – Near the 800m was steadied to avoid the heels of ZOFF ‘N’ HOFF (M Wishart(a)) which shifted in when not clear. Apprentice M Wishart was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.
 
RISING STAR – Over-raced in the middle stages.
 
ZOFF 'N' OFF – Began awkwardly.
 
KING ALFONSO – In the home straight laid in.
 
ANCIENT AZTEC – Near the 700m when the pace steadied checked to avoid the heels of BOUNTY HUNTER.
 
DURUNDUR LAD – When over-racing near the 1000m, shifted in before being checked to avoid the heels of BIRKIN BLACK.
 
IAMPAIDFOR – Bounded at the start and lost ground. A post-race veterinary revealed the gelding to be intermittently coughing. Trainer D Bougoure was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance and the results of an endoscopic examination prior to racing again.
 
ROYAL SHEEN – After rearing in the barriers and contacting to the front gate, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 5:09pm. All monies bet for a win and/or place betting on the late scratching to be refunded. All successful bets on horses prior to time of withdrawal are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket:

Place Bets (For Winner) - 6 cents
Place Bets (For 2nd) - Rising Star - 0 cents
