GENERAL
Due to transport difficulties Jockey N Day will not be riding at today’s meeting, rider changes as per summary below.

Jockey Dale Smith fined the sum of $200 under AR 218(4)(b) for having a mobile phone in his possession in the jockey’s room.

Race 1: ACCESS INSULATION SUNSHINE COAST Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden Ha 1000 metres

The start was delayed when JUST A PATSY became fractious in the enclosure and had to have an adjustment made to the saddle. Due to the geldings erratic behaviour was take to the horse stalls to be resaddled. The gelding continued to be fractious when being resaddled and was evident it was lame in the near hind leg. Was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:12pm. All monies invested on JUST A PATSY were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 1:12pm:

16 cents in the dollar for the win # PHANTOM SPIRIT
10 cents in the dollar for the place of winner # PHANTOM SPIRIT
21 cents in the dollar for 2nd place # ZEPHYR CRUISER

A post-race veterinary examination of JUST A PATSY identified the gelding to be lame in near hind leg. Trainer T Miller was notified that he will be required to provide a Veterinary Clearance and also trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to the gelding racing again.

MARCHEKY BOY – Slow to begin.

PHANTOM SPIRIT – Lost its near side front plate in running.

SALEX SPIRIT – Began awkwardly.


Race 2: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS Class 3 Plate 1000 metres

DYNAMIC VERSE – Bumped on jumping.

FIRST BID – Began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with DYNAMIC VERSE. App T Wheeler was reprimanded under AR132(6)(c) for use of whip when out of contention.

FRUSTRATED – Raced wide throughout.


Race 3: XXXX DRY Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap 1000 metres

Following the running of Race 2 the track was downgraded to a Heavy 10.

Significant delay to the start of the race when MAHOE GOLD lost an offside front plate en-route to the barriers and had to received farrier attention.

MISSFANCYFEET – Bounded at start and lost ground.

TOUCH OF TANGO – Raced wide throughout.

ROUGE GOLD – Laid in near the 800m and had to be eased from the heels of MAHOE GOLD.

MAYBE IT'S TIME – Slow to begin. Rider A Sewell was reprimanded under AR132(6)(c) for use of whip when out of contention.

TAORMINA MATCH – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of filly did not identify any abnormal findings.

ORDESA - Jockey Adam Spinks charged under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip 9 times prior to the 100m which is 4 more than permitted. Jockey Adam Spinks license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days, to commence midnight 16/1/2020 and to expire midnight 23/1/2020.

TODO AMOR – Slow to begin and raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MAHOE GOLD – Began awkwardly and made contact with the outside barrier partition.

SINE CURVE – Near the 500m put in an awkward stride.


Race 4: PARKLANDS TAVERN BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1400 metres

THE IRONS – App E MacPherson reported that the gelding hung out in the straight.

COASTAL BOY – Rider M Rodd reported that the gelding raced keenly throughout which in his opinion had a detrimental affect on the gelding finishing efforts.

MAXIMAK – Slow to begin.

I'M CALLIN' DIBS – Slow to begin.


Race 5: YALUMBA WINES Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden Handicap 1400 metres

As FUNNY LEGS became extremely fractious and was unable to be saddled, was subsequently declared a late scratching at 3:22pm. All monies invested on FUNNY LEGS were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 3:22pm:

0 cents in the dollar for the win # TOP ORDER
2 cents in the dollar for the place of winner # TOP ORDER
1 cents in the dollar for 2nd place # TRIANGULUM
3 cents in the dollar for 3rd place # DIAMOND BEANS

Trainer P Duff undertook to take corrective action with the gelding’s pre-race manners.

The start of the race was delayed when EARN OUT was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the request of the rider and cleared to start.

MASO – Over raced in the early stages. Performed below market expectation rider S Cormack advised that the horse over raced in the middle stages and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of MASO did not identify any abnormal findings.

EIGHTYTHREE BRICKS – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

TOO VIENNESE – Slipped behind on jumping and lost ground. Shifted out to improve near the 400m resulting in EIGHTYTHREE BRICKS, DEEL BLASTER and SPIRITUAL being carried wider on the track. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. Rider M Rodd report to Stewards that the gelding didn’t handled today’s rain affected track. A post-race veterinary examination of gelding did not identify any abnormal findings.

DEEL BLASTER – Over raced in the early stages whilst being restrained.

DIAMOND BEANS - Rider C Meehan was fined $600 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on nine occasions prior to the 100 metres, 4 more than permitted.

EARN OUT – Passing the 800m raced in restricted room for some distance inside BLUE BOY MCCOMBA.

SPIRITUAL – Raced wide throughout.


Race 6: COASTLINE BMW Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres

MY BOY SAM – Dipped and became awkward for a number strides passing the 50m. For this reason rider R Maloney did not feel comfortable in riding the horse out in his normal manner.

I AM THIRTY – Began awkwardly.

LOVE YA BLUE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

JUST WISHING – Leaving the 800m was checked when tightened for room to the inside of VIOLATION.

SPOOLING – Passing the 200m was hampered when VIOLATION shifted in.

VIOLATION – Over raced in the early stages and from the 800m resulted in the saddle shifting and placed its rider at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race.

LITTLE DRUMMER BOY – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.


Race 7: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY Class 2 Handicap 1600 metres

STEINBRENNER - Stable representative was questioned regarding the improved performance in today’s event. He stated that the gelding appeared to handle today’s rain affected track when able to lead and also benefited from having a senior rider engaged.

GRENADIERS – Reared at the start and lost ground. Rider Andrew Spinks reported that the gelding didn’t handle today’s rain affected track.
