SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

FROM TOWNSVILLE – THURSDAY 24 MAY 2018

Race 7: FEED 2 GO BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1400M

Stewards today inquired into the reason why JERRAZZ (A. Butler) appeared to clip heels and fall leaving the 1000m, resulting in KANUI (L. Tilley) and SIDTHEKID (C. Jokic) being severely inconvenienced and dislodging their respective riders.

After hearing evidence from riders, stewards and viewing the race day films, it was established that the pace commenced to slacken near the 1000m and soon after BOCAGE (B. Thomson) commenced to race ungenerously and when being steadied lost ground. CARLINO’S WAY (P. Cullen), which was racing to the inside of BOCAGE, was steadied, resulting in JERRAZZ, which was racing in restricted room, clipping the nearside heel of CARLINO’S WAY, which shifted out slightly. KANUI and SIDTHEKID, which were following, were unable to avoid the fallen horse, being badly inconvenienced and dislodging their riders.

As stewards deemed this an unfortunate racing incident, no action was taken against any one rider and the inquiry was closed.

*************

Stewards today inquired into an incident leaving the 1200m where AS YAWOOD (W. D’Avila) was severely checked. After hearing evidence from W. D’Avila, A. Butler (JERRAZZ), B. Thomson (BOCAGE) and P. Cullen (CARLINO’S WAY), Ms Thomson pleaded guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that she permitted her mount to shift in near the 1200m, placing runners to the inside in restricted room, and then continued to shift in leaving the 1200m, dictating CARLINO’S WAY inwards onto JERRAZZ, which was taken inwards, tightening the running of AS YAWOOD, which was severely checked and made contact with the running rail. Ms Thomson’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 28 July and expire at midnight on Friday 10 August 2018. In determining penalty, stewards deemed this incident to be in the mid range.
