Race 9 TAB TOWNSVILLE CUP OPEN HANDICAP 2000m
Stewards today inquired into an incident which occurred when the field was pulling up at the completion of the race. Soon after passing the winning post BUSTER BLOCK (P Cullen) improved onto the heels of TUNERO (S Wilson), having to be restrained on 2 occasions, then approximately 50m after that initial incident BUSTER BLOCK again became awkwardly placed on the heels of TUNERO and blundered causing Jockey P Cullen to become severely unbalanced, losing his irons and suffering a facial injury when thrown forward onto his mount’s neck. Jockey Cullen who was disorientated by the impact was dislodged some distance after. After viewing the patrol footage and hearing evidence from the riders involved it was ascertained that no party could be held responsible for the incident and as such no further action was taken by Stewards.
GENERAL
Race 1: TOWNSVILLE MEDICAL STAFF SOCIETY MAIDEN HANDICAP 1609m
SNEAKY GAL - Fractious in the barrier. Began awkwardly.
ROLL THE BEANS - Began awkwardly.
SHADOW ECLIPSE - Began awkwardly and was buffeted between runners soon after jumping. Commenced to race ungenerously when awkwardly placed on the heels of another runner and bumped with further a runner to its inside passing the 1300m. Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
SHE’S A SINNER - Lost its near hind plate in running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
TRUSTABLE - Bumped by another runner passing the 1300m. Shifted wider to improve passing the 500m bumping with another runner. Inclined to layout under pressure down the running.
BORROMEO - Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. Jockey S Sheargold accidentally dropped his whip in the vicinity of the 100m.
GO JABBA - Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
LAZARO - Raced wide in the early stages.
Race 2: MAGNUM’S CATERING OPEN HANDICAP 1000m
No reportable incidents.
Race 3: IN MEMORY OF TALBOT HEATLEY QTIS 3YO BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1000m
PALATE - Jockey B Appo was granted permission to ride the filly 1/2kg over the allocated weight.
STELLAMOON - Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor recovery rate.
HIGHER REALM - Inclined to over-race in the early and middle stages.
CAT IN THE RAINE - Buffeted between runners on jumping. Raced 3 wide for the majority.
LA FURIOSO - Unable to obtain clear running for the duration of the home straight and as such went to the line without being fully tested.
ENDORSE - Inclined to over-race in the early and middle stages. Raced 3 wide the majority. Compounded over the concluding stages. Jockey C Whiteley advised that after travelling well throughout the event the gelding failed to let down at all over the concluding stages. Trainer S Massingham advised that due to recent weather conditions the gelding has had an interrupted lead up into today’s event a fact that, in his opinion, was likely compounded by the heavy weight. Mr Massingham further advised he would consider implementing a gear change prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Race 4: COCA-COLA AMATIL MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200m
MISS FUBULICIOUS - Delayed the start after requiring farrier attention behind the barriers.
BRAZEN RASCAL – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly lame in the near foreleg. Trainer A Cameron was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to next race start.
BELFAST LASS - A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
WHITS END - When tiring, was momentarily hampered by another runner which shifted out passing the 200m.
STARS AT WAR - Inclined to lay out under pressure down the running.
SENOR PIG - Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running.
PEONY ROSE - Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed general muscle soreness. Trainer S D’Avila was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to next race start.
NALSSENDORI - Unable to obtain clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
Race 5: HYGAIN BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200m
ACADEMY HILL - Slow to begin. Bumped by another runner on jumping. Shifted in and bumped with a further runner soon after.
FIRGIVE ME - Slow to begin. Bumped by another runner on jumping.
HIT SNOOZE - Began awkwardly.
SWEET TASTE - Shifted in on jumping bumping with another runner. Inclined to over-race in the middle stages.
ALL STAR ROCKET – Led for the majority of the event before being seriously challenged approaching the home turn, and was run down over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer T Bannon to advise Stewards should anything which may have had a bearing on today’s performance become apparent in coming days.
Race 6: BROWN BROTHERS CLASS 6 PLATE 1400m
HUTCHO - Connections advised of an intention to have the gelding ridden further forward than in its most recent starts, should circumstances permit. Was ridden accordingly. Inclined to layout under pressure down the running. Hampered by another runner which shifted in approaching the 150m.
BRAINS - Shifted out on jumping bumping with another runner before being tightened between runners soon after. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running, crowding another runner approaching the 150m.
DORDOGNE - Jockey F Edwards, who was unable to fulfil his engagement due to illness, was replaced by Jockey S Sheargold as the rider of the gelding. Jockey Edwards was advised a medical clearance would be required prior to resuming race riding . Bumped with another runner on jumping. Hung in for a short distance approaching the 1000m having to be strenuously restrained to avoid heels.
CASH RAIDER - Shifted out on jumping bumping with another runner and tightening runners to its outside.
NOTIO - Bumped by another runner on jumping and tightened soon after.
UMBERTO - Stood flat-footed as the start as the start was effected, failing to leave the barriers with the remainder of the field. Trainer T Cook was advised the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to next race start. Obliged to momentarily steady when hampered by another runner which commenced to hang in approaching the 1000m.
HELMAZ - Inclined to over-race in the early and middle stages.
Race 7: BAKER MEMORIAL CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1609m
LASSITER’S LODE - Raced wide in the early stages.
BALMACEDA - Shifted in marginally passing the 1000m crowding another runner.
CANDY GIRL - Inconvenienced after being crowded by another runner which shifted in marginally approaching the 1000m.
CLEO’S POET - Shifted out under hard riding passing the 250m bumping with another runner. Jockey D Smith was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident.
CHIC SOX - Raced wide throughout.
OLIVER SKOONA - Slow into stride.
RAIN ON ME - Commenced to lose ground passing the 500m and finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer R Nelson was advised the mare’s nominations at TAB venues would be refused until country form has been proven. Jockey N Nelson was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(6)(c) for her use of the whip on a runner out of contention.
Race 8: BH CUSTOM CONSTRUCTION CLASS 3 PLATE 1000m
DJEBEL READY - Began awkwardly.
STAR RAIDER - Slow to begin.
OVERSEAS - Obliged to restrain to avoid the heels of another runner which shifted in approaching the 800m.
FRENCH FIZZ - Shifted in approaching the 800m inconveniencing a runner to its inside which had to be restrained. App K Southam was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident.
AMMATE - Slow to begin. Shifted out passing the 850m bumping with another runner. Raced in restricted room from the 500m-400m.
RIGEL - Raced wide throughout.
CHEVAUX - Tightened between runners soon after jumping.
DIRTY DIARY - Tightened between runners soon after jumping.
OCTOBER STORM - Inconvenienced soon after jumping. Bumped by another runner which shifted out approaching the 850m causing Jockey C Whiteley to become unbalanced. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
TATACHILLA - Raced wide throughout.
Race 9: NQ LICENSED EVENTS RATINGS BAND 0-55 HANDICAP 1300m
SPIRITUAL ROSE - Slow to begin.
GRACIOUS GARCON - Tightened between runners on jumping. Improved onto heels passing the 500m having to be steadied. Obliged to shift in passing the 150m to secure clear running.
INDIAN DANCER - Raced wide throughout.
AT DUSK - Shifted in on jumping.
POETIC ATTACKS - Raced wide from the 800m.
CHEESE BURGER - Jockey F Edwards was replaced by Jockey D Smith as the rider of the gelding. Tightened between runners on jumping.
GRACEFUL ZARIFA - Raced wide throughout.
