After receiving a report from the QRIC Integrity Investigations Team in relation to the activities of a stable employee of Mr. Ben Currie, which occurred on the morning of today’s race meeting at Mr Currie’s stables, Stewards adjourned an inquiry in relation to the matter after taking initial evidence from a number of parties. A number of samples were obtained from Mr. Currie’s horses which were engaged at today’s meeting for analysis. These samples were taken at his stables, and also after arriving on course.

Race 1: SPIRIT OF BOOM QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1100M

SIENNA ROSE – Brushed the running rail whilst laying in near the 550m.

TAVEUNI – Steadied from heels shortly after the start.

Race 2: A&R REFRIGERATION CLASS 3 PLATE – 2000M

HIGH WIND – Forced wider on the track by another runner near the 1600m, and raced wide from that point.

MUSTARRID – As the gelding’s bubble cheeker had become detached and was unable to be located, Stewards permitted it to race without that gear. Overraced in the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed an abrasion on the gelding’s off hind bumper.

GREAT GLEN – Trainer C. Waller advised that it is the intention for the gelding to be ridden with cover today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Forced wider on the track by another runner near the 1600m.

MOBILE – Began awkwardly.

QUIERO – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

AUDREE – Hung out for some distance passing the winning post on the first occasion and shifted wider on the track. The stable representative for Trainer B. Baldwin advised that it is now the intention for the mare to be retired. Nevertheless, they were advised that the mare will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to being permitted to race again.

SHIELD WALL – Lost an off fore plate in running.

SHUDA KNOWN BETTER – Steadied from heels near the 1400m. Apprentice M. Murphy accidentally dropped his whip near the 200m.

SCHWARZY – Slow to begin.

YEEZY – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which tailed off, revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer B. Johnson was advised that the gelding would not be permitted to compete in metropolitan races until such time as it shows consistency at provincial meetings.

Trainer P. Nolan Jnr. was fined $100 for failing to have HOLD ON on course by the prescribed time.

REWARD FOR FASHION – Steadied from the heels of SHE IS FIERCE whilst laying in near the 150m. Jockey S. Bogenhuber advised that the mare travelled comfortably throughout the run however it was pressured for some distance by NOW YOU SEE. ROSIE POSIE – Slow into stride. Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn.

BETTABET RED – Stewards permitted the mare to race without the nasal strip. Raced wide with cover for the majority.

When questioned by Stewards regarding the gelding’s performance, jockey M. Cahill advised that after being slow to begin the gelding failed to muster early speed, and due to the fast early tempo was hard ridden at the tail of the field for the majority of the race to hold its position. He added that in the home straight the gelding ran on fairly, and he believes that the horse may be better suited over further distances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

RED PRINCE – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.

ELSARAY – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Jockey N. Tomizawa reported that the mare overraced in the early stages and, in his opinion, was not suited by GULLY COMMAND racing to its outside during the middle stages. He added that the mare is better suited when able to lead in its races without being pressured, and he advised that he was disappointed in the mare’s performance today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

He added that when asked to improve into the race from the 400m the gelding failed to accelerate as he had expected and, in his opinion, was disappointing over the concluding stages. Trainer B. Currie expressed disappointment in the gelding’s finishing performance today.
