Race 2: TOOWOOMBA HOSPITAL FOUNDATION CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1875m

The declaration of correct weight was delayed when connections made application to declare THE BARRACUDA a non-runner on basis that it was denied a fair start. Upon viewing the patrol footage stewards found that THE BARRACUDA jumped in the air marginally when the start was effected. Stewards further found that at this time the gelding’s head was being held by a barrier attendant for an extended period of time which impeded its ability to jump from the barriers and as a result the gelding lost considerable ground at the start. As stewards were satisfied that the gelding had been denied a fair start as a result of these actions, it was subsequently declared a non-runner under AR134A. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on THE BARRACUDA be refunded with the following deductions to apply:-

1st place – 20c win, 14c place
2nd place – 21c place
3rd place – 20c place

F. Jervis (PRINCE MORPHEUS)  and App. L. Kilner (SOLITARY ROSE) the riders of the dead heat second place getters were both fined $500 for failing to ride their respective mounts out to the conclusion of the event.

Race 3: JOE WAGNER GROUP QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1110m

Prior to the declaration of correct weight  stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey Beau Appo the rider of the fifth placed TOP LUCK against the third placed MAKEMYDAY (App. Z. White) alleging interference rounding the home turn. After taking evidence from the relevant parties and viewing the patrol footage stewards found that TOP LUCK was disappointed for a run to the inside of MAKEMYDAY which shifted in marginally rounding the home turn. At this time TOP LUCK then shifted to the outside of the heels of MAKEMYDAY in an endeavour to secure clear running. A short distance later TOP LUCK was momentarily placed in restricted room, however stewards were of the view that this was result of WEARETENFORTYEIGHT shifting in rather than MAKEMYDAY shifting out. As stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that overall interference suffered to TOP LUCK was completely attributable to MAKEMYDAY the objection was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the judges original numbers.

BONDAGE – Raced with its head in the air whilst being restrained at the 800m. Raced three wide with cover. Rider N. Tomizawa reported that he was forced to travel wide throughout the event. He also added that the filly travelled comfortable however when placed under pressure leaving the 500m failed to respond and proved disappointing. Post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

TOP LUCK – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

DAKOTA SUN – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

HONEST NATALIE – Shifted in abruptly approaching the 900m to take a position on the fence.

WALLY WARHAMMER – Tailed off and was uncompetitive. Post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer J. Davidson was advised that the horse’s nomination would be rejected at provincial meetings until such time as it re-established form at country venues.
