GENERAL

As G. Geran was indisposed due to illness, riding replacements were made in Races 3 and 7 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: SUE EDWARDS BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1050M

BLACK CRUSADE – After being slightly slow to begin, the gelding was further hampered shortly after the start when steadied from heels. Held up rounding the home turn. Forced to steady and shift outwards near the 100m to avoid the heels of MISHANI VALENTINO (App. M. Wishart) which shifted in whilst being ridden along by its rider. Apprentice M. Wishart was reprimanded as a result of this incident.

DIARIST – After being caught wide in the early stages, jockey S. Bogenhuber permitted her mount to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader leaving the 800m. Neither jockey S. Bogenhuber nor trainer Mr. B. Currie could offer any tangible explanation for the seemingly below market expectation performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

ZOU DER ZEE – Slow to begin.

Race 2: MARCEL VAN DE VELDE BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1000M

TEEROYS TRIBUTE – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly.

CHIEF JOSEPH – After beginning awkwardly, the gelding was hampered by another runner on jumping away and lost ground.

TEXT BOOK – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start. Laid in in the early stages and was steadied from heels near the 900m.

THE REAL BOSS – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start.

PIERIDAE – Connections advised that it would be the intention for the mare to be ridden aggressively to obtain a forward position today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

Race 3: AMBASSADOR TRAVEL CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1210M

BRAD BE BOLD – Began awkwardly. Steadied when placed in restricted room near the 350m.

SIZZLEONTHEBRIDGE – Jockey J. Woodhouse could offer no explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance.

VIBRATO – Connections advised that it would be the intention for the gelding to be ridden midfield with cover today if circumstances permit. After being caught wide in the early stages, the gelding was restrained to a position towards the tail of the field to obtain cover.

STAR ADELE – Began awkwardly.

ONE OF THE BEST – Tightened for room and checked near the 350m when SIZZLEONTHEBRIDGE shifted in. J. Woodhouse, the rider of SIZZLEONTHEBRIDGE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 350m he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in when insufficiently clear of ONE OF THE BEST. Jockey Woodhouse’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 22 December 2018 and expire at midnight on Sunday 30 December 2018. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Woodhouse’s guilty plea and his prior good record in relation to this rule.

BROWN LINES – Due to an error, R. Goldsbury was incorrectly declared as rider when in fact Apprentice S. Sweeney was engaged to ride the gelding. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

Race 4: DON LOOMIS CLASS 3 PLATE – 1640M

MORNING FARE – Laid in in the early part of the home straight.

GREYNOMAD – Held up from approaching the home turn until entering the home straight.

THERE’S NEMO – Began awkwardly, and then tightened for room shortly after the start. Made contact with the running rail near the 300m and, as a result, became awkward.

LI’L RODGE – Raced 3 wide without cover in the early stages before jockey S. Bogenhuber permitted her mount to stride forward to obtain the leading position approaching the 1000m.

DINISTY – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

FLYING COLOURS – Raced 3 wide for the majority.

Race 5: QCTS MATERIAL TESTING CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1300M

The start of this race was delayed when SHEZ OUR DESTINY, was inspected by the veterinary surgeon at the request of its rider upon arriving at the barriers. Following this inspection, the mare was declared a late scratching at 7.16 pm on veterinary advice. On the announcement of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on SHEZ OUR DESTINY be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

0 cents in the dollar for the Win #3
0 cents in the dollar for place of winner #3
2 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #2

LAST ARMAGEDDON – Hung out throughout, and proved difficult to ride out in the home straight.

MR MARKOU – Slow to begin.

DREAM OF ASCOT – Raced keenly in the early stages. Hung out rounding the home turn.

MOSS GO NOW – Slow to begin.

Race 6: PETER GARROD MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M

EIGHTEEN WHEELER – Raced wide without cover throughout.

LITTLE ALBERT – Overraced in the early stages and proved difficult to restrain and, as a result, was ridden forward by its rider from leaving the 1000m to obtain a position outside the leader near the 700m.

Race 7: JOHNSTON’S LIVESTOCK TRANSPORT QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1210M

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD – Forced wider on the track near the 700m, and then raced wide for the remainder. Shifted in abruptly whilst weakening in the early stages of the home straight.

LOUIE LA’JOY – Laid out rounding the home turn.

A SONG FOR GRACE – Tightened for room at the start. Dipped of its own accord near the 500m.

TREZORO – As E. Ljung was to be overweight, Beau Appo was substituted as rider. Jockey Ljung was reprimanded. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Ljung’s exceptional record in relation to this rule. Tightened for room at the start.

TWOGOBOOM – Raced wide without cover throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn.
