Race 1: ACCESS INSULATION MAIDEN H’CAP – 1875M

WHERE’S THE MONEY – Commenced to overrace after obtaining a position at the rear of the field, and had to be steadied from heels approaching the 1500m.

GOLDEN BASIL – Hampered at the start. Overraced in the early stages.

SEARING SPEED – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by Trainer B. Wakefield regarding the late declaration of M. Cahill as rider.

C’MOME PADDY REILLY – Clipped heels and blundered leaving the 900m when TE RAPA shifted in. Apprentice C. Gallagher, the rider of TE RAPA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that leaving the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of C’MOME PADDY REILLY which clipped heels and blundered. In this incident, HUGHSTAAD clipped the heels of C’MOME PADDY REILLY and blundered. Apprentice Gallagher’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 13 days, to commence at midnight on Wednesday 1 May 2019 and expire at midnight on Tuesday 14 May 2019.

KING ZOFF – Inconvenienced by the weakening TE RAPA approaching the 800m, and shifted wider on the track.

RUSTIC TOPAZ – Trainer M. Boland was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card. Began awkwardly, and shifted out making contact with FOR THE BOYS. Commenced to hang out approaching the 800m and lost considerable ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery. Trainer M. Boland was advised that the gelding will require a further barrier certificate prior to resuming racing.

FOR THE BOYS – Bumped and inconvenienced by RUSTIC TOPAZ at the start.

FORTUNATE DECREE – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

GRAND BARRAIL – Held up rounding the home turn.

PACK OF PROOF – Trainer M. Boland was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card. Had to be eased shortly after the start to avoid the heels of SHE GOES BOOM (A. Fancourt) which shifted in when placed under pressure by its rider. Jockey A. Fancourt was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future. Steadied near the 900m when tightened for room between CONFESSIONS, which shifted out, and SHE GOES BOOM, which shifted in. Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.

SYNDRUM – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had bled from both nostrils. Trainer M. Kropp was advised that the gelding will be ineligible to race for 3 months and prior to resuming racing must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a Steward.

CONFESSIONS – Shifted in at the start and bumped GO GETTER.

Raced ungenerously and proved difficult to ride throughout, and near the 700m shifted out forcing POTRO DURO wider on the track. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Dougall was advised that the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing.

POTRO DURO – Slow into stride. Tightened for room approaching the 900m. Raced wide throughout, and was forced wider on the track near the 700m. When questioned by Stewards regarding the disappointing performance, Apprentice J. Murphy advised that, after being slow to begin, he attempted to comply with his instructions to obtain a forward position by improving forward, however he was unable to do so and, as a result, raced wide for the majority. He added that after racing wide the gelding failed to finish the race off and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities.

BEANS ‘N’ RICE – Slow into stride.

LADY ELLEY – When questioned by Stewards regarding the performance of the filly, which was well supported in the betting market, Apprentice B. Nothdurft advised that at the filly’s only two race starts it proved disappointing, but with the addition of blinkers today he was hopeful of gaining a more forward position. He added that at a point near the 900m, he was obliged to steady his mount resulting in him losing ground. He further added that near the 600m when attempting to improve into the race, the filly failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing in its finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. A post-race swab sample was taken from the filly.

Race 6: MICK SUTTON CONCRETING CLASS 5 PLATE – 1640M

BRUMBY JACK – Inconvenienced and forced wider on the track near the 1200m. Apprentice A. Thompson was reminded of his obligations regarding his use of the whip.

Race 7: POTTERS BOUTIQUE HOTEL CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1050M

After viewing the Stewards’ patrol footage, Mr. W. Morriss, the trainer of PAT’S GIRL, placed 4th by the Judge, lodged an objection against HEART OF KINGS being placed 3rd, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, Stewards found that whilst HEART OF KINGS did lay in over the concluding stages resulting in PAT’S GIRL being momentarily steadied, they were not of the view that the interference suffered to PAT’S GIRL was sufficient to uphold the protest bearing in mind the one and a quarter length margin between the runners at the conclusion of the race. Stewards therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the judge’s placings.

LI’L RODGE – Slow to begin. Apprentice N. Keal reported that he was disappointed in the performance, but added that the gelding is better suited when racing over greater distances than that of today’s race. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities.

HEART OF KINGS – Commenced to race keenly in the early stages when jockey E. Ljung attempted to restrain the gelding to obtain cover and, as a result, shifted wider on the track to avoid heels and raced wide for the majority.

KIBBIT RAHEEB – Bumped by CLOCKWISE and AULTBEA shortly after the start and lost ground.

DASHING OCEAN – Trainer B. Robinson was fined $100 for the late declaration of Apprentice C. Frater-Hill as rider.

GLOBAL FACTOR – Held up rounding the home turn.

PAT’S GIRL – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by Trainer W. Morriss regarding the late declaration of Apprentice A. Thompson as rider. Inconvenienced by HEART OF KINGS when that runner laid in under pressure approaching the 100m. Eased to avoid the heels of HEART OF KINGS approaching the winning post when that runner shifted in under pressure. Jockey E. Ljung was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.

IMMUNE – Slow to begin.

Race 8: LASER CLINICS AUSTRALIA CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1050M

DEEP SONG – Slow into stride.

THE LAWYER – Began awkwardly.

MR KYLIN – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by Trainer B. Robinson regarding the late declaration of A. Fancourt as rider.

MINI MOUNTAIN – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Stewards questioned Apprentice M. Savva, in the presence of jockeys advocate Mr. B. Saunders, in relation to her riding in the home straight, and in particular the reason for her shifting in for a considerable distance and failing to straighten her mount. Apprentice Savva advised that she had not been aware that she had shifted ground as much as he had and, after viewing the films, she agreed with Stewards that she should have stopped using the whip with her left hand and should have straightened her mount in an effort to prevent it from shifting in under pressure.  Having regard to Apprentice Savva’s relative inexperience as an apprentice rider, Stewards took the matter no further other than to refer this ride to the Racing Queensland Apprentice Training Department for further review and tuition.

Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred near the 500m which resulted in GLITTER TOP (App. B. Nothdurft) becoming unbalanced when heavily bumped by THE LAWYER (E. Ljung) which was taken in by DEEP SONG (App. M. Wishart) which was inclined to lay in and away from MINI MOUNTAIN (App. M. Savva) which had shifted in. After taking evidence from the riders involved, Stewards were of the view that DEEP SONG was inclined to lay in and away despite the efforts of its rider, however they could not be satisfied that the interference could be attributed to the actions of any one rider and elected to take the matter no further.

Race 9: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1210M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable Stewards to inquire into the reasons for jockey Beau Appo returning to scale underweight. PIERIDAE was subsequently disqualified from its first placing under the provisions of AR. 209(2)(a) when jockey Beau Appo weighed in in excess of half a kilogram underweight. At a subsequent inquiry, jockey Beau Appo was found guilty of a charge under AR. 209(2)(b) in that he returned to scale in excess of half a kilogram underweight. Jockey Appo’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 4 weeks to commence at midnight on Tuesday 30 April 2019 and expire at midnight on Tuesday 28 May 2019. In determining penalty, Stewards were mindful of the seriousness of the breach of this Rule, and also gave consideration to the loss of prize money to the owners and the loss of monies invested on the mare.

HI FIVER – Checked shortly after the start, and lost ground when tightened for room. Had to be steadied near the 100m when tightened for room between SPIRIT’S PRIDE and ROAD TO HEAVEN which shifted out slightly.

ADDICTED – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running approaching and passing the 200m. Inconvenienced over the concluding stages by REEF KNOT which shifted out and, as a result, went to the line without being fully tested.

REEF KNOT – Apprentice A. Thompson was fined $300 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
