GENERAL

As D. McIntosh was not attending the meeting today, a riding replacement was made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: HAPPY 50TH BIRTHDAY ANGE CLASS 3 PLATE – 1100M

DREAMSCOPE – Raced wide without cover throughout.

LEROY ROCKS – Raced keenly in the early stages and, after being crossed near the 900m, raced with its head in the air for some distance.

PAPA JO – Dipped on jumping away. Raced wide with cover throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn. Jockey J. Grob was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

THE BIG HOUSE – Struck out in the enclosure and made contact with the enclosure fence. The horse was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight, and had some difficulty securing clear running near the 200m.

PAT’S GIRL – Apprentice Z. White was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

MOLLY’S ROCKING – Held up rounding the home turn. When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer M. Currie advised that he remained at a loss to explain the mare’s poor performance at its last start, as its form prior to that event had been quite good. Mr. Currie added that the mare continued to work well following its last start and, from the good barrier today, he had again expected the mare to run well.

Race 2: AUDI CENTRE TOOWOOMBA CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M

DEVILS MARBLES – Raced with its head in the air for a short distance after being restrained passing the 900m. Jockey E. Ljung reported that it was her intention to ride the gelding with cover today, however after it began well and raced keenly in the early stages, she permitted her mount to stride forward to obtain the leading position passing the 1000m.

CUBAN SAGA – As Apprentice N. Keal was unable to arrive on course in time to fulfil his engagement because he was riding at another venue, T. Allan was substituted as rider when no other apprentice was available. Apprentice Keal was fined $100. Jockey T. Allan reported that the mare travelled reasonably in a rearward position, however when placed under pressure near the 500m, it failed to respond to his riding and weakened in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities.

MILLION – Raced wide with cover throughout. Steadied from heels leaving the 500m.

EAST ESPLANADE – Cast an off hind plate in the tie-up stalls. After the plate was refitted, the gelding was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. Raced 4 wide without cover throughout. Bumped by another runner approaching the 100m.

BEL BEAU – Commenced to race keenly after being crossed passing the 900m, and was steadied from heels for some distance.

WICCAN REDE – Raced wide without cover throughout. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Shifted out and bumped another runner approaching the 100m.

LUKEY DEE – Knuckled on jumping away. Commenced to race keenly after being crossed passing the 900m, and was steadied from heels for some distance.

Jockey W. O’Connell was dislodged from BACKUP BILLY on pulling up taking a seemingly harmless fall. Jockey O’Connell was able to fulfil his remaining engagements.

Race 3: VANDERFIELD JOHN DEERE CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1625M

RUMBERELLA – As Apprentice B. Nothdurft was unable to arrive on course in time to fulfil his engagement because he was riding at another venue, Apprentice N. Keal was substituted as rider. Apprentice Nothdurft was fined $100. Tightened for room at the start. Apprentice N. Keal could offer no explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding, which he advised had travelled well throughout but failed to respond when asked to quicken. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery, and that it had lost the off hind plate.

BOSS’S BOY – After being caught wide in the early stages, Apprentice Z. White permitted her mount to stride forward to obtain the leading position passing the 1000m. Apprentice Z. White could offer no explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance other than that the gelding had been inclined to overrace which may have been detrimental to its finishing sprint. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities.

UBIRR ROCK – Raced keenly in the early stages.

ALADINA – Shifted in on jumping away and made contact with another runner. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out.

CAPTAIN CRUMPET – Slow to begin. Steadied when disappointed for a run near the 300m, and shifted to the outside to secure clear running.

IN YOUR ELEMENT – Improved onto the heels of another runner near the 1300m and then shifted out abruptly. Forced wider on the track by another running rounding the home turn.

WHITMAN – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Following the poor performance, the stable representative for Mr. M. Hemmings was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding. The stable representative was further advised that should the horse perform in a similar manner in the future, consideration will be given to preventing it from racing at TAB venues until such time as its form improves.

Race 4: TOOWOOMBA PLASTICS QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M

BY BY MUSIC – Bumped on jumping away.

DON’T STOP – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.

TERRIUS – After being caught very wide in the early stages, jockey N. Thomas rode his mount aggressively to obtain a position closer to the rail, however the gelding was forced to race 3 wide without cover throughout.

THE WAITING MAN – Slow to muster early speed. Hung out rounding the home turn, and shifted wider on the track.

DANINA – Bumped on jumping away.

RAINGURL – Laid in under pressure in the home straight, and brushed the running rail at the 200m. Improved onto heels and had to be steadied rounding the home turn.

Race 5: MITAVITE BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 2150M

UNIQUE MISTIQUE – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn.

WESTBROOK WARRIOR – After being caught wide in the early stages, jockey B. Stower allowed her mount to stride forward to obtain the leading position approaching the 1900m and, as a result, settled further forward than anticipated.

INVERARAY – Began awkwardly.

THERE’S NEMO – Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to obtain the leading position near the 1400m.

Race 6: TOOWOOMBA TRUCK SPARES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

COCO JAMBO – Slow to begin.

SELECT ROYAL – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

KOHIKO – Steadied near the 750m to avoid the heels of NORAVALE (W. O’Connell) which shifted in when not completely clear. Jockey W. O’Connell was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future. Disappointed for a run passing the 200m and lost ground, before shifting to the outside to secure clear running.

NORAVALE – Raced keenly at heels for some distance approaching and passing the 600m.

RUN THE CUTTER – Held up rounding the home turn.

OFF COURSE – Had some difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn.

MISSGOODYTWOSHOES – Slow to begin. Overraced when in a rearward position leaving the 1000m.

SHEQER CROI – The mare was presented to the enclosure without the near side blinker. As that gear was not available on course, Stewards permitted the mare to race without that gear.  Trainer S. Neylon was fined $100.

Race 7: WHOLESALE HORSEWEAR HOUSE MAIDEN H’CAP – 1850M

NEWSTEAD – Shifted out abruptly on jumping away.

SCILAGO – Raced with its head in the air whilst being restrained near the 1200m.

BATTLE PLANE – Bumped on jumping away. Forced wider on the track by another runner approaching the 1200m.

CAMBOOMYA – Forced wider on the track by another runner in the early stages. Overraced badly in the early and middle stages before being allowed to stride forward by its rider to obtain the leading position near the 900m.

COMPLETE TRUST – Slow to begin and then bumped heavily shortly after the start and, as a result, settled further back in the field than anticipated. Commenced to race fiercely and hung out rounding the turn near the 1300m and, as a result, shifted wider on the track near the 1200m. Trainer T. Dougall was advised that a warning will be placed on the horse’s racing manners.
