Race 1: BBC QLD CLASS 3 PLATE – 1000M

RED DEVIL – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Momentarily placed in restricted room near the 150m.

ACCEPTILE – Steadied passing the 200m to avoid the heels of MOLLY’S ROCKING (J. Oliver) which shifted in under hard riding whilst hanging in. J. Oliver was reprimanded for failing to make sufficient effort to keep his mount straight at that point.

REAL PATRIOT – Jockey E. Ljung could offer no explanation for the below market expectation performance of the gelding today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer T. Sears was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic examination, prior to its next start.

MOLLY’S ROCKING – Hung in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 2: CHANNEL 9 DARLING DOWNS CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M

MADDIARA – Bumped heavily on two occasions shortly after the start. Hung out rounding the home turn. Laid out over the concluding stages.

TEQUILA BOOM – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground.

ACCOUNTANT – Bounded as the start was effected resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced and, as a consequence, lost ground.

Race 3: TOOWOOMBA PLASTICS ROSES PRELUDE 2 BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1200M

BOGEY MAN – After making contact with the enclosure fence on entering the track, the gelding underwent a pre-race veterinary examination upon arriving at the barriers and was passed fit to start.

GIVUS A CUDDLE – After being crossed near the 900m, the mare commenced to hang in for a short distance despite the efforts of its rider.

I AM THE GENERAL – Raced wide with cover throughout.

COUNTER MEAL – Raced in restricted room and was eased near the 900m when racing to the inside of GIVUS A CUDDLE which laid in despite the efforts of its rider. Jockey Beau Appo could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance other than that the horse’s record indicates that it may not be suited to this track.

OKANAGAN MISS – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

Race 4: SCRIVENS HAULAGE BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 2000M

After viewing the Stewards’ patrol footage, Apprentice N. Masuda, the rider of RESET’S SON, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against THE REAL SPIEL (Beau Appo) being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 1700m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, Stewards found that whilst THE REAL SPIEL did shift in near the 1700m resulting in RESET’S SON being eased, they could not be satisfied that the interference caused to RESET’S SON was sufficient to uphold the protest particularly bearing in mind the proximity to the winning post. Stewards therefore dismissed the protest, and declared correct weight on the judge’s semaphored numbers.

CYCLONE PATH – Began awkwardly. Severely tightened for room at the start and lost ground and, as a result, settled further back in the field than anticipated.

RESET’S SON – Steadied to avoid heels of THE REAL SPIEL (Beau Appo) upon exiting the home straight on the first occasion. Jockey Beau Appo was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future. Steadied from heels whilst racing keenly for some distance between the 1600m and the 1400m.

HUMILITY – Tightened for room on jumping away.

STORMY LEO – Bumped and became unbalanced near the 1900m. Jockey A. Fancourt permitted her mount to stride forward from a point approaching the 1400m and obtained the leading position near the 1200m.

THERE’S NEMO – Commenced to yield ground from the 1100m before being retired from the race near the 500m at which point the gelding collapsed and died. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had sustained a significant bleeding attack. Blood and urine samples were taken from the gelding.

Race 5: KERB CAFE MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

At the request of jockey Beau Appo, QUITE EASILY DONE was examined by the veterinary surgeon upon arriving at the barriers and was passed fit to start.

The start of this race was delayed when BUZZER BEATER, which became cast in the barriers, was inspected by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 8.03pm. On the announcement of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on BUZZER BEATER be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

9 cents in the dollar for the Win #9
5 cents in the dollar for place of winner #9
10 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #4
15 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #10

Following the race, jockey T. Allan, the rider of BUZZER BEATER, reported that he was experiencing some discomfort in his ribs. After being assessed by Queensland Ambulance Officers, jockey Allan was stood down from his remaining engagement in Race 7, and a riding replacement was made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Allan was advised that he will require a medical clearance prior to resuming riding.

Connections were advised that the BUZZER BEATER will require a further barrier certificate prior to resuming racing.

SNOWY RIVER – After being slow to begin, and as a result of being caught wide, the gelding was ridden forward by its rider to obtain a position outside the leader approaching the 900m.

AHEADOFHISTIME – Declared a late scratching at 3.30pm on veterinary advice.

LITTLE NATURAL – Disappointed for a run near the 100m when SNOWY RIVER (E. Ljung) shifted in under hard riding whilst laying in. Jockey E. Ljung was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.

KALANI GOLD – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 150m and brushed the running rail and, as a result, became unbalanced and lost ground.

LITTLE ALBERT – Raced keenly in the early stages.

Race 6: THE BETTER BUILDING CO QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

The start of this race was delayed to enable an adjustment to be made to the running rail in the home straight.

FEELING READY – Trainer P. Sexton was fined $100 for the late declaration of S. Apthorpe as rider.

I’M CALLIN’ DIBS – Began awkwardly.

REDZEB – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.

VERMUTIN – Commenced to race ungenerously near the 900m and was shifted wider on the track by its rider and, as a result, raced wide for the remainder. Commenced to weaken near the 400m, and raced in restricted room when SPALLINA hung out despite the efforts of its rider. Jockey E. Ljung observed on returning to scale that the throat lash on the gelding had come undone which she reported may have inconvenienced her mount throughout. She also reported that the gelding raced greenly throughout.

HIDDEN SECRET – Raced wide without cover throughout.

MOA’S GIRL – Stewards permitted Apprentice N. Fazackerley to claim only 1½kg of his 3kg allowance. Apprentice Fazackerley was fined $300 for failing to claim his full allowance. Prior to the race, the filly cast a plate and stood on a nail. The nail was removed from the filly’s near hind hoof by the veterinary surgeon. The filly subsequently underwent a pre-race veterinary examination upon arriving at the barriers and was passed fit to start.

SPALLINA – Tightened for room at the start. Laid out rounding the home turn.

Race 7: MARY MACKILLOP CATHOLIC COLLEGE MAIDEN PLATE – 870M

LOVE YA LAD – Knuckled on jumping away.

AMERICAN CROWN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

ENCUMBERED SOUL – Raced wide throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn.

TINDER LOVING CARE – Eased by its rider shortly after the start and lost ground, and then failed to go the early speed. Raced very greenly in the home straight. Momentarily held up passing the 100m.
