Race 1: AXIOM INSURANCE BROKERS CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1300M

MILLEN FALCON – Forced wider on the track near the 700m. Steadied from heels near the 400m. Disappointed for a run near the 250m and shifted wider on the track to secure clear running.

SPARTAN JET – Clipped heels and blundered near the 400m resulting in Apprentice C. Bayliss almost being dislodged and the gelding losing considerable ground. Apprentice C. Bayliss, the rider of SPARTAN JET, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that near the 400m he attempted to force a run between MISS HOW LONG (S. Bogenhuber) and ACCOUNTANT (S. Lacy) when there was no room to do so which resulted in SPARTAN JET clipping heels and blundering causing Apprentice Bayliss to almost be dislodged, and resulting in the gelding losing considerable ground. In this incident, a number of runners which were trailing SPARTAN JET also had to be steadied. Apprentice Bayliss’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence at midnight on Saturday 14 December 2019 and conclude at midnight on Wednesday 25 December 2019. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Apprentice Bayliss’ guilty plea and his prior good record in relation to this rule.  As a result of this incident, Apprentice Bayliss returned to scale with a bleeding nose after being struck in the face by his mount’s head. Apprentice Bayliss was examined by Queensland Ambulance Officers and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.

GREY SKIES – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by trainer R. Drysdale regarding the late scratching of the gelding at 11.00am.

MISS HOW LONG – Laid out in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly revealed no apparent abnormalities.

SEMAPHORE GIRL – Slow to begin. Steadied to avoid heels near the 400m. Eased from heels when MILLEN FALCON shifted out near the 250m. Apprentice N. Masuda, the rider of MILLEN FALCON, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

Fazackerley advised that the mare travelled well until it was placed under pressure near the 400m at which point it failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery.

LOVE YOU LUCY – Raced wide in the early stages.
