GENERAL

As A. Allen was not attending the meeting today, a riding replacement was made in Race 3 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Stewards accepted jockey Allen’s explanation regarding his non-attendance at the meeting today.

Apprentice C. Bayliss pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 232(b) in that he failed to comply with a direction of a security official when entering the course. Apprentice C. Bayliss was fined $500. Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason for Apprentice C. Bayliss failing to comply with the direction of a Steward during the course of a Stewards inquiry in relation to this matter, and also in relation to his further failure to comply with a direction to remain on course.

Race 1: AG RIGGING MAIDEN PLATE – 2175M

CHINESE DYNASTY – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which tailed off, revealed the horse to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery. Trainer M. Boland advised that in light of today’s performance, it is now his intention for the gelding to leave his stable. Nevertheless, Mr. Boland was advised that should the gelding return to racing, it must first barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards.

RECALL EVENTS – Disappointed for a run rounding the home turn and lost ground.

THE SEVEN FALLS – Failed to muster early speed. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had bled from both nostrils. The trainer’s representative was advised that the gelding will be ineligible to race for 3 months and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward.

FIORELLI – Connections advised that it would be the intention for the gelding to be ridden further forward in the field today if circumstances permit. After being ridden along after leaving the barriers, the gelding was unable to muster early speed and, as a result of racing wide, was restrained to a rearward position near the 1600m.

SHADOW ECLIPSE – Disappointed for a run rounding the home turn and lost ground. Trainer S. Kendrick reported that the gelding had bled from one nostril whilst being transported back to his stables. Mr. Kendrick was advised that the gelding must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward prior to next racing.

DOMINICA ROSE – Connections advised that it would be the intention for the mare to be ridden further back in the field today if circumstances permit. Overraced in the early stages and, as a result, was unable to be restrained to a more rearward position as per the proposed change of tactics. Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.

VENTURES SIGHT – Raced keenly and was steadied from heels near the 1500m.

Race 2: PLATINUM INTERNATIONAL MOTOR INN QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1000M

FIVE OXFORD – Hung out rounding the home turn and, as a result, proved difficult to ride out in the early stages of the home straight.

RYANO – Raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SIZZLELOVER – Stewards permitted jockey L. Tilley to ride the filly 0.5kg over its allotted weight. Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with the barrier partition.

Race 3: FURNEYS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1110M

LICENCE TO ROCK – Disappointed for a run for some distance approaching the 200m before shifting to the inside in an endeavour to secure clear running, however was again disappointed for a run passing the 100m.

TREASURE OF GOLD – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance, trainer M. Nolan advised that prior to the colt’s first run in a race it had worked well, and he had expected a forward showing at its first race start. He added that on debut, the colt was slow to begin and then proved very disappointing throughout. Mr. Nolan  went on to say that following that run he had been pleased with the colt’s work, and whilst he was not entirely surprised by its vastly improved performance today, he was somewhat surprised that it was able to be successful. Stewards noted the explanation.

YAZZI JEAN – Hung in under pressure over the final 100m and proved difficult to ride out.

ARCADIAN SHORES – Raced wide without cover throughout.

CHERAX DESTRUCTOR – Raced wide throughout.

Race 4: MITAVITE MAIDEN H’CAP – 1110M

ROSTRUM – Slow to begin.

DUSTY HAZE – Raced keenly and hung out rounding the turn near the 700m. Steadied near the 150m when tightened for room by ROSTRUM, which shifted in and away from CHEESIE, which was taken in by JOJO GO, which shifted in marginally whilst weakening.

ANTIPODEAN LAD – Steadied and lost ground after being crossed near the 900m.

KNUCKLEBOX – Slow to muster early speed. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

Race 5: AUDI CENTRE TOOWOOMBA CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1640M

TEARS OF LOVE – Race ungenerously rounding the turn near the 1200m and shifted wider on the track and, as a result, when a runner improved to its inside, the gelding was forced to race in a 3 wide position before being allowed to stride forward to assume a position outside the leader near the 900m.

NIATROSS – Connections advised that it would be the intention for the gelding to be ridden further forward in the field today if circumstances permit. After being ridden along in the early stages, the gelding settled in a midfield position. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. On return to scale, jockey E. Ljung reported that her mount did not feel comfortable in its action from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The trainer’s representative could offer no explanation for the filly’s performance today, which he advised was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
