GENERAL
As Apprentice J. Grob was unable to attend the meeting due to injury, riding replacements were made in Races 4 and 8 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Upon arriving on course, Stewards determined that the 800m chute was unsuitable for racing due to rainfall, and therefore amended the distance of Race 6 from 800m to 1000m. Stewards permitted the late scratching of HIDE THE MOON from Race 6 at 11.25am due to the alteration of the race distance.
Race 1: ASSUMPTION COLLEGE WARWICK MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M
The start of this race was delayed when a number of runners proved difficult to load.
The start was further delayed when CHASING ACRES refused to load. The gelding was declared a late scratching at 12.07pm. All monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable:
12 cents in the dollar for the Win #9
11 cents in the dollar for place of winner #9
12 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #13
13 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #10
Trainer J. Gregory was advised that CHASING ACRES will require a further barrier certificate prior to resuming racing.
MALEFIC – Commenced to buck shortly after the start and took no competitive part in the race. Trainer R. Milne will be advised that the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming racing.
TICKETOME – Slipped on jumping away and lost ground. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey R. Goltz advised that the gelding was stepping down in distance, and as a result of being slow to begin his mount failed to muster early speed and settled further back in the field than he had anticipated. Jockey Goltz went on to say that when able to get to the outside of runners in the home straight, the gelding ran on well over the concluding stages. Stewards noted the explanation.
ICE ELITE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Had difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages.
BRIDGET’S DIARY – Bumped on jumping away. Raced wide without cover throughout.
LOVE IS ALL AROUND – Dipped on jumping away.
PUNJABI SAVITAR – Began awkwardly.
STRONG DESIRE – Held up and had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight, and then had a tendency to hang in proving difficult to ride out.
SEMAPHORE GIRL – Momentarily raced in restricted room near the 800m.
Following the running of this race the track was downgraded from a Soft 6 to a Heavy 8 retrospective.
Race 2: THE MALTHOUSE WARWICK MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M
The start of this race was delayed when IMABARMAN (J. Oliver) and MYSTICAL WISP (Apprentice A. Thompson) both dislodged their riders upon arriving at the barriers, and galloped a short distance before being recaptured. Upon returning to the barriers, IMABARMAN and MYSTICAL WISP were both examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
The start of this race was further delayed when KRUSTALLOS refused to load. The filly was declared a late scratching at 12.48pm. All monies invested on the filly were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable:
3 cents in the dollar for the Win #6
3 cents in the dollar for place of winner #6
4 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #14
4 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #3
Trainer M. Hemmings was advised that KRUSTALLOS will require a further barrier certificate prior to resuming racing.
This race was run in heavy rainfall.
ANTIPODEAN LAD – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 800m. Steadied when awkwardly placed at heels near the 700m.
IMABARMAN – Steadied when placed in restricted room near the 200m when runners to either side shifted ground.
POSTER MAN – Hung in in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out.
KICK A TINNIE – Tightened for room on jumping away and then again shortly after the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had bled from both nostrils. Trainer B. Currie was advised that the gelding will be ineligible to race for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward.
Following the running of this race, Stewards met with a delegation of riders who expressed concerns with the lack of visibility as a result of a heavy downpour during the race and the deteriorating track conditions. Stewards were concerned that these factors would compromise the safety of the riders and horses, and subsequently made the decision to abandon the remainder of the meeting.
