As Apprentice E. MacPherson was not attending the meeting today due to injury, a riding replacement was made in Race 2 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Apprentice E. MacPherson was advised that she will require a medical clearance prior to resuming riding.

Stewards reprimanded jockey P. Hamilton for his inappropriate standard of dress when arriving on course prior to the running of Race 3 today. When issuing the reprimand, Stewards reminded jockey Hamilton of his obligations in this regard.

Race 1: SOUTHERN DOWNS AG BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 800M

As IRONBORN and RUSSIAN RICK had not raced since 2018, both horses underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and were passed fit to start.

The start of this race was initially delayed when THE BUMBLEBEE cast its near fore plate in the enclosure.

The start was further delayed when RUSSIAN RICK, which became fractious in the barriers and sustained a laceration to its near fore cannon, was declared a late scratching at 11.14am on veterinary advice. Trainer B. Sheppard was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.

WATCHMEN – Began awkwardly.

ACCEPTILE – Slow to muster early speed.

FAIR FELLA – Laid in in the early stages.

DENMAN QUALITY – Steadied from heels near the 650m.

Race 2: GROVE JUICE BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 800M

CANDESCENCE – Slightly slow to begin, and then tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.

SPECIAL CASE – Laid out in the early stages. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.

ALLENA – Began awkwardly and was then tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. Disappointed for a run when runners to either side shifted ground marginally approaching the 100m.

MAHA MUSTANG – Tightened for room on jumping and again shortly after the start and, as a result, lost ground.

TOUJOURS L’AMOUR – Steadied to avoid heels near the 600m.

BLACK JAGUAR – Stewards permitted jockey L. Tilley to ride the mare 0.5kg over its allotted weight. On return to scale, jockey L. Tilley reported that, in his opinion, his mount held its breath throughout the race.

Race 3: WARWICK AUTOMOTIVE CLASS 2 PLATE – 1200M

The start of this race was delayed when CONQUER MEE, which refused to load, was declared a late scratching by Stewards at 12.19pm. Trainer R. Davidson was advised that the gelding will require a barrier certificate prior to next racing.

JACK’S IMAGE – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.

WAIT A MINUTE – Overraced for a short distance leaving the 800m. Laid in in the home straight.

RUBY RUSH – Began awkwardly. On return to scale, jockey H. Phillips reported that she had sustained a minor injury to her right wrist at the conclusion of the race. Jockey Phillips was assessed by Queensland Ambulance Officers and cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements.

SIZZLING SUN – Began awkwardly.

DO IT – Slow to begin.

UNO AMOR – Held up for clear running for a short distance approaching the 150m. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey L. SIZZLING POWER – Shifted out in the home straight.

DOMINANT WITNESS – Disappointed for a run rounding the home turn. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight, and again near the 150m.

MAQUEREAU – Declared a late scratching at 8.50am for veterinary reasons. Trainer B. Ahrens was advised that the gelding will require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.

BONSEA – Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 850m when MALFOY shifted in marginally forcing BONSEA in onto FLAUNT.

Stewards inquired into an incident at the 800m in which BONSEA and FLAUNT were both tightened for room and lost ground. Stewards found that near the 800m YABA DABL DOYA, which was racing keenly, was forced to shift out from heels which in turn placed pressure on the runners to its outside. Stewards also found that at that same point MALFOY, which was racing to the outside of BONSEA shifted in and placed the runners to its inside in restricted room. As Stewards were unable to attribute the interference to the actions of any one rider, they deemed it a racing incident and took the matter no further.

Race 7: ELDERS REAL ESTATE WARWICK MAIDEN PLATE – 800M

COALBANK CAVALRY – Began awkwardly and made contact with another runner on jumping.

REG ‘N’ KATH – Bumped at the start.

MISS HISSYFIT – Stewards permitted Apprentice N. Fazackerley to claim only 0.5kg of his 1.5kg allowance which is 0.5kg over his riding weight. On return to scale, Apprentice N. Fazackerley reported that the filly did not feel entirely comfortably in its action during the event. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly revealed no apparent abnormalities.
