GENERAL
 
As jockey P. Randall was unable to attend to todays meeting due to personal reasons and M. Wishart was injured, replacements were made as per the steward’s summary.
 
Race1: TAB MAIDEN HANDICAP- 2000m
 
DYDEES GIRL – When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance Trainer V Heading advised that at the horses most recent start it over raced during the early stages and was subject to interference in the home straight. He added subsequent to this run the mare had worked well, and as a consequence had expected and improved showing in today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
SUZY NEEDS LOVIN’ – Hung out passing the winning post on the first occasion.
 
RIVERKY- Hung out passing the winning post on the first occasion forcing MULRONEY (NZ) wider on the track. After being caught wide in the early stages was allowed to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1500m. Placed in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 1000m and was forced to steady when NICOSMILE shifted in when not completely clear. App. A Thompson the rider of NICOSMILE was reprimanded as a result of this incident.
 
NICOSMILE- When passing the winning post on the first occasion laid in across heels and as a result was forced to steady. After being caught wide in the early and middle stages was allowed to stride forward to a leading position approaching the 1000m.
 
BURN THE BOATS- Raced keenly in the early stages. Improved onto heels at a point approaching the 1500m and as a result was forced to restrain for a short distance.
 
PRONOUNCEMENT- Began awkwardly. After passing the wining post on the first occasion was forced to steady from heels for a short distance. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout the middle stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
MULRONEY (NZ) -Forced wider on the track by another runner passing the winning post on the first occasion.
 
 
 
Race 2: TAB MAIDEN HANDICAP-1200m
 
GRETY INTENTIONS- Slow to begin
 
DE NOVA STELLA- Jockey C. Taylor reported his mount was inclined to hangout during the event. Bumped by another runner and blundered near the 500m.
 
MONS JUBILEE- Began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously in the early stages.
 
PEARLS AND PERFUME- Upon returning the scale App. A. Thompson reported this mount felt awkward in its action during the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare had sustained an injury to the off fore tendon. Trainer K. Jones was advised the mare would require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
WHO SAID SO (NZ)- Clipped heels and blundered near 400m when DE NOVA STELLA shifted in. Jockey C. Taylor the rider of DE NOVA STELLA was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that a point approaching the 400m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of WHO SAID WHO causing that runner to clip heels and blunder. Jockey Taylor’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days commencing midnight the 8th of August and to conclude midnight the 17th of August. When considering penalty stewards took into consideration Jockey Taylors prior good record in relation to this rule.
 
STAZZANA- At a point approaching the 500m, shifted out bumping DE NOVA STELLA resulting in that runner knuckling. Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
 
Race 3: TAB QTIS THREE-YEAR OLD BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP – 800m
 
CHARLIE SPHENE- Began awkwardly. Inclined to hangout throughout. While hanging out, bumped another runner to the outside rounding the home turn. Bumped by another runner to the inside during the concluding stages. Jockey W. Peel was unable to utilise her whip for a short distance passing the 100m when it was almost dropped.
 
RED WABBAT- Tightened for room at the start and forced wider by another runner to the inside. Shifted out under pressure in the concluding stages bumping another runner to the outside.
 
PERSAGA- Forced wider on the track upon jumping by another runner and as a result was forced across heels.
 
BATTLE THROUGH- Began awkwardly shifting wider onto the track. Inclined to hang out from the 500m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
ELECTRIC DRAGON- shifted out abruptly after passing the winning post.
 
Race 4: TAB BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP – 800m
 
SHE’LL STRIKEYA- As the mare had not started in a race for a period of over 12 months, a pre-race veterinary examination was undertaken resulting in the mare being fit to start.
 
SECLUDE- Bumped by another runner approaching the 700m
 
IMMABARMAN- Bumped another runner approaching the 700m
 
GREY SKIES- Jumped in the air at the start and was reluctant to compete taking no competitive part in the event. Trainer R. Drysdale was advised that the gelding would require 2 consecutive barrier certificates prior to returning to racing. Mr. Drysdale was further advised that the gelding would be barred from racing at TAB venues until its form improves to the satisfaction of the stewards. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
HIDDEN EYES- Began awkwardly bumping another runner to the outside. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
THE BUMBLEBEE- Bumped by another runner on jumping.
 
 
Race 5: TAB CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1100m
 
ANGEL LASS- At the request of the rider, a pre-race veterinary examination was conducted on the mare upon arrival at the barriers and was subsequently passed fit to start.
 
ENCHANTED REIGN- Slow into stride.
 
COUP- Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
NEXT CHAPTER- Jumped in the air at the start and lost ground. Raced keenly in the early stages and was through its head in the air whilst being restrained at the 700m.
 
PRIOR ENGAGMENT- Raced wide without cover.
 
INCOMPARABLE – Jockey P. Hamblin was reprimanded under AR.132(7)(a)(ii) for his use of the whip on more than five occasions prior to the 100m.
 
 
Race 6: TAB BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP - 1200m 
 
ENLIGHTENED- As the mare had not started in a race for a period of over 12 months, a pre-race veterinary examination was undertaken resulting in the mare being deemed fit to start.
 
PATCHE GIFT- Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
 
GRANDIOSO- Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
OUR ROCKY- Threw its head in the air at the start.
 
CONQURE ME- When questioned regarding the below market expectation performance jockey P. Hamblin advised that in his opinion the gelding travelled strongly throughout the early and middle stages although when placed under pressure from leaving the 400m, failed to respond under hard riding and proved disappointing. Trainer R. Davidson advised the gelding would now be sent for a spell following today’s event.
 
SIR MAGIC – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer B. Loakes acknowledged that in his opinion the gelding had been disappointing throughout its most recent preparation, however he added that he has seen a dramatic improvement in the gelding’s work since its last run and as result he expected an improved performance in todays event. Stewards noted Mr Loakes’s explanation.
 
 
Race 7: TAB CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1350m 
 
ZOLLIKON MISS- Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
STAREMM (NZ)- Bumped by another runner approaching the 100m
 
SINGLE AGAIN- Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Dipped leaving the 700m. When questioned regarding the below market expectation performance App. A. Patis could offer no explanation. Post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
LUVYOULONGTIME- Bumped by another runner approaching the 100m
 
BESTERS- Raced wide without cover in the middle stages. Laid out under pressure in the home turn.
 
EVENING- Pulled up by its rider shortly following the event. Jockey C. Taylor advised that in his opinion the horse felt abnormal in its action. Post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
The riders of STAREMM (NZ) (C. Bayliss), SINGLE AGAIN (A. Patis), LUVYOULONGTIME (M. Kennedy), REAL ESTATE (W. Peel) and WOTS WONG (N. Fazackerley) were all reminded of their obligation to ride their mounts out to the finish line.
 
Apprentice C. Bayliss was fined $100 under AR.128(2) for leaving the course without the permission of the stewards.
