Jockey Jake Bayliss, rider of TROMMELSCHAGEN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 1200m when not clear of HEARTS LIFTED, which was taken in on to CHAPTER AND VERSE, resulting in HEARTS LIFTED being hampered and CHAPTER AND VERSE being checked. Jockey Bayliss was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 days to commence at midnight, 1 July and to expire at midnight, 9 July.

Stewards questioned jockey B. Shinn regarding his riding of the horse, particularly in the home straight. Jockey Shinn explained that it was his intention to ride the horse in a forward position, however after beginning only fairly he was unable to muster sufficient speed and as a result settled at the rear of the field. He added that he had to check off heels near the 500m and upon straightening he shifted the horse to the outside and applied hands and heels vigour and used his whip on one occasion and the horse shifted in and he had to correct it. Near the 900m had to be steadied from the heels of COLOSIMO, which shifted in when not fully clear. An inquiry into this incident was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed.
