Apprentice J. Murphy stated that he could offer no tangible explanation for the horse’s performance today. Mr Mel Eggleston, representing trainer Kris Lees, advised that TOP PROSPECT is better suited when able to sit up near the lead and dictate the tempo of the race, and furthermore, the stable intends to back the horse up in the following week. Apprentice Murphy was reprimanded for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, being one more than permissible under the rules. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be short-striding in front.
