When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of the horse, which started a short-priced favourite, rider J. Lloyd explained that his instructions were to make use of the favourable barrier and after beginning slowly he then elected to push forward on the colt as it had led in its most recent trial. He also noted that the horse made some abnormal respiratory noises in running and had to work hard to hold a position. He also noted that the horse may have choked down and was disappointing.
