Raced keenly in the early stages. When asked to comment on the tactics adopted, apprentice S. Tomlinson advised that he had been instructed to go forward today, as the colt had led and performed well in a recent jump out. He added that at the colt’s first start it was the intention for it to race in a forward position, however after being slow away it settled further back in the field than anticipated.
Bumped on jumping. Improved to the inside of BLACK KITTY for a short distance passing the 400m and had to be restrained. Disappointed for a run to the inside of BLACK KITTY approaching the 200m and had to alter course to the outside to secure clear running.
Began awkwardly. Slightly inconvenienced over the final 100m when crowded for room between SE RENDRE and WILD AND READY.
Failed to respond after passing the 400m, and then commenced to weaken and finished in a rearward position. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey J. Bayliss advised that his mount was inclined to hang out throughout. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
