Nothdurft could offer no explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding which he advised had commenced to weaken after travelling wide from the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting an upper respiratory noise.

After beginning only fairly, the mare shifted out abruptly shortly after the start and was reluctant to stretch out and, as a result, trailed the field throughout taking no competitive part in the race. The trainer’s representative, Mr. T. Pascoe, was advised that the mare must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming racing. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities.
