Race Meeting Stewards’ Report

Ladbrokes Q1 Lakeside

Date: Tuesday 26 May 2026

Track: Good

Weather: Overcast

Stewards: T. Flymen, P. McLean & M. Fernholz

General: Prior to the commencement of the race meeting, all starting boxes were tested by Stewards and were in safe working order. After reviewing the start of Race 1, Stewards identified that the starting lids may have marginally opened prior to the commencement of the race. The All Clear had already been declared with the TAB before the issue with the starting boxes had been observed. The 457m boxes then underwent further testing and were deemed in safe working order to race at that distance for the remainder of the program.  This incident has been referred to the chief Greyhound Steward for further review.

Update 16 June 2026

Following referral of this matter, the Chief Steward conducted a review of the start of Race 1 after it was identified that the starting lids were not fully compressed at release, which was not detected until after the All Clear had been declared.

After consideration of the available race footage (lateral and front-on), the Chief Steward determined that all greyhounds began on equal terms and no greyhound was materially prejudiced. In particular, Evander (#6), which was slow to begin, was observed to have been positioned toward the rear of the box and began awkwardly, which was not attributable to the condition of the starting lids.

The Chief Steward considered the application of GAR 110(2)(a); however, the threshold of material prejudice was not established and as the All Clear had already been declared, the race result and associated betting outcomes remain unaffected.

During this review, the Chief Steward directed the Club to conduct a full audit of all starting boxes across the three tracks at The Q. This audit has been completed, with remedial works undertaken and the boxes confirmed to be operating to the satisfaction of Stewards.
