Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in in the early stages of the home straight, and then near the 150m shifted out after being struck with the whip before being straightened by its rider.

Near the 200m, had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on heels and shifted wider. Approaching the 100m, was forced to shift out to improve when awkwardly placed at heels.

When the pace of the race steadied, approaching the 1200m, commenced to over race and proved difficult to restrain for a considerable distance.
Forced wider by another runner near the 100m. Jockey N Callow reported that after settling in a rearward position due to the fast early tempo the field was stretched over a considerable distance, and therefore passing the 1300m he felt there was an opportunity to improve around the field to a midfield position without being caught wide. He went on to say that after commencing a move forward, the tempo of the event steadied resulting in the field compressing, and as a result the position he attempted to obtain was no longer available and as a consequence he was forced to race three wide
