GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following overweight –
 
Race 3: R. Jamieson +1kg (55kg)
Race 7: M. Cahill +0.5kg (55kg)
 
Race 4: Trainer G. Allard was fined $200 under LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider on MERCHANT FLYER. 
 
Race 8: Jockey J. Bayliss was reprimanded pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight and was replaced as per the race day summary.
 
Race 1: SEVEN FAMILY RACES 6 MAY MAIDEN HANDICAP         1100 M
 
NO NAME FRANK – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 950m, when racing greenly, shifted in and away from PERIGEAN.
 
PERIGEAN – Approaching the 950m commenced to lay in when racing greenly.
 
SHOOT THE DIVA – Slow to begin.
 
TAMAHAGANE – Lost a near fore and near hind plate in running.
 
MAKE IT SO – Began awkwardly. Laid in when placed under pressure in the early part of the home straight.
 
DAWN DOWN UNDER – Approaching the 950m, when racing keenly and laying in became awkwardly placed on the heels of NO NAME FRANK which was taken inwards by PERIGEAN, and as a result was tightened for racing room and inconvenienced. Over raced during the middle stages.
 
MAPLE MAGIC – Approaching the 950m was obliged to ease when awkwardly placed to the inside of DAWN DOWN UNDER which was taken in by NO NAME FRANK, which shifted in and away from PERIGEAN which was laying in. Jockey R. Maloney, the rider of PERIGEAN was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) in that he should have made greater effort to correct his mount from laying in. Stewards, whilst noting the incident, were mindful of the racing manners of DAWN DOWN UNDER, which was also inclined to lay in, and that Jockey R. Maloney did make some effort to prevent his horse from shifting in.
 
EMILY NINETYNINE – Raced wide for the majority.
 
LADY MANTAGNA – Raced wide from the 700m.
 
 
Race 2: RIVER 94.9FM QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP       1350 M
 
Correct weight was delayed in order for the Stewards to review the start after Trainer M. Dunn and Jockey R. Maloney, the rider of MILITARY AWARD made an application for the gelding to be declared a non-starter after Jockey R. Maloney stated that as the start had failed electronically on two occasions and after the second attempt to effect the start manually, he was unbalanced and therefore disadvantaged. Stewards, after taking evidence from both Starters acknowledged that the start was effected manually. When reviewing the footage, Stewards were satisfied that MILITARY AWARD was facing the gates and that Jockey R. Maloney was not disadvantaged. Correct weight was declared on the judges’ placings.
 
CAPITAL CEE - Apprentice B. Wheeler reported at scale that his mount was disappointing when asked for an effort and could offer no further explanation for the gelding’s poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
MILITARY AWARD– Began awkwardly.
 
DISNEY CASTLE – Bumped on the hindquarters rounding the home turn and became unbalanced.
 
ESKIMO - Over raced during the early and middle stages.
 
FARWEST – Slow to begin.
 
CARTWHEELS – Shifted out rounding the home turn, contacting DISNEY CASTLE.
 
Race 3: SCHWEPPES CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1350 M
 
Prior to the start of this event the barriers were re-tested to the satisfaction of the Starter.
 
OUR MAGNUS – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Near the 1200m, raced in restricted room and was buffeted between APERITIVO (NZ) and CENTRE BOUNCE, which shifted in. Jockey R. Dolan, the rider of CENTRE BOUNCE, was severely reprimanded pursuant AR 131(a) for allowing his mount to shift ground when insufficiently clear. In assessing the incident, Stewards noted that Jockey R. Dolan over the latter part of the incident, did attempt to relieve pressure, however, became awkwardly placed at the heels of GREEK STAR, which improved from wider on the track. When asked to comment on OUR MAGNUS’s performance over the concluding stages, Apprentice B. Wheeler stated that the gelding was inclined to hang out. Apprentice B. Wheeler pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant AR 131(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out over the concluding stages and was fined $200. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.  
 
INVAHIR – Brushed with STAR SEEKER on several occasions in the home straight.
 
APERITIVO (NZ) – Bumped shortly after the start. Bumped with OUR MAGNUS on a number of occasions near the 1200m and became unbalanced.
 
GREEK STAR – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 100m.
 
CENTRE BOUNCE – Leaving the 1200m, became awkwardly placed on the heels of GREEK STAR.
 
STAR SEEKER – Raced wide during the early stages before obtaining a position outside the leader passing the 800m. Brushed with INVAHIR on several occasions in the home straight.
 
Race 4: TAB MAIDEN PLATE      1350 M
 
BARGARA BOUND – Restrained shortly after the start to gain a position closer to the inside rail. Over-raced during the early and middle stages.
 
ELROY – Began awkwardly.
 
UNITED FRONT – Near the 700m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied when the pace of the race slackened.
 
EXCEED SPEED – Began awkwardly.
 
FLYWHEEL – Bumped with HE GOES BOOM in the early part of the home straight. Laid out when placed under pressure over the final 150m.
 
HE GOES BOOM – Laid in during the early part of the home straight and bumped with FLYWHEEL.
 
MERCHANT FLYER – Improved onto the heels of MAKIN’ STATEMENTS over the concluding stages and as a result was unable to be fully tested to the finishing line.
 
DECISIVELY – Over-raced during the early stages. Raced wide.
 
LAVONI – Raced wide.
 
MAKE HASTE – Slow to begin.
 
PARRA – Laid in rounding the home turn.
 
 
Race 5: GREAT NORTHERN BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP         2150 M
 
GRIPPING –Began awkwardly and shifted out. Near the 800m, left a midfield trailing position and allowed his mount to stride forward and reach the lead near the 600m.
 
TAVISTORM (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
ALIRAAJ (NZ) – Slow to begin. Over-raced when the pace slackened in the early stages.
 
COME ON EILEEN – Slow to begin.
 
CONTRITION (NZ) – Slow to begin and was steadied from heels shortly after the start. Near the 1600m was hampered when IRIDESSA (NZ) laid in slightly.
 
IRIDESSA (NZ) – Jockey T. Thornton was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
BOULT– When asked to comment regarding BOULT’s poor performance, Jockey M. Hellyer could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer K. Monckton stated that the gelding would now be going for a spell. Trainer K. Monckton was advised that a metropolitan bar would now be placed on the gelding until such time as its form improves.
 
 
Race 6: IMPERIAL RACING CLASS 2 HANDICAP         1666 M
 
BITOFTHEBLARNEY (NZ) - Contacted heavily as the start was effected and lost ground when FEARLESS THINKING shifted in abruptly. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
MANNERHEIM – Contacted heavily as the start was effected and lost ground when BITOFTHEBLARNEY (NZ) was taken inwards. Near the 250m, bumped with ROCKED. Raced in restricted room to the inside of BRINGME over the concluding 50m. MANNERHEIM was accidently struck on the nose by the whip of Jockey K. Zechner.
 
FEARLESS THINKING (NZ) – Began very awkwardly and shifted in.
 
ROCKED – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight before being disappointed for a run near the 250m when MANNERHEIM shifted in. Proceeded to improve onto the heels of JUBILANT and was unable to be fully tested to the finishing line.
 
ONLY LOVE (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
BRINGME – Over-raced during the early stages. Laid in over the concluding stages. Jockey Zechner was reminded of his obligations to stop and straighten his mount when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
 
JUBILANT – Bumped on jumping.
 
TURN TABLE – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 7: GORDON'S PINK GIN CLASS 1 HANDICAP         1350 M
 
DRIALLE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 700m, improved onto heels and had to be steadied when the pace slackened.
 
TOKYO BANDIT – Began awkwardly. When questioned regarding the performance of TOKYO BANDIT, Jockey A. Mallyon reported that he was satisfied with the gelding’s performance, however in his opinion would benefit from a rise in distance.
 
TWILIGHT ROCK - Began awkwardly.
 
STORM FORCE TEN – Slow to begin. Raced wide. Taken wider when DRIALLE shifted out to improve rounding the home turn.
 
ANATINI – Raced wide.
 
TOO MUCH MAKEUP – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 8: TAB IPSWICH CUP ON SALE CLASS 1 HANDICAP         1350 M
 
NEW LEVEL (NZ) - Inconvenienced rounding the home turn and taken wider.
 
VICTORIA ROC (NZ) – Raced wide. Inconvenienced rounding the home turn and was bumped by NEW LEVEL (NZ) and taken wider. Jockey B. Thornton reported that the mare raced flat. A post-race veterinary examination revealed mild respiratory noise and a slow post-race recovery. Trainer B. Smith was advised that VICTORIA ROC (NZ) would require a veterinary clearance with the results of an endoscope prior to racing again.
 
DWINDLING SPIRIT – Began awkwardly then was bumped and lost ground. Hampered approaching the finishing line when DUNTROON LASS laid out.
 
AERIAL DANCER – Lost its off-fore plate in running.
 
JUST LOOKING – Laid in approaching the home turn. Shortly thereafter, brushed with AERIAL DANCER which was easing wider, before racing ungenerously and shifting wider on the course.
 
DUNTROON LASS – Laid out over the concluding stages. Jockey A. Allen was reminded of his obligations to stop and straighten his mounts in similar circumstances.
 
LUCKY JESS – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
THE NAKED LADY - Raced wide.
 
EPAUVESCENT (Nozi) – Began awkwardly. Raced wide.
 
WHISTLIN' RULER – Taken in on jumping and was bumped. Near the 100m, had to be steadied from the heels of DUNTROON LASS, which shifted in.
 
 
Race 9: SEVEN NEWS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP         1100 M
 
SELOUS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
WATERWORLD – Raced in restricted room approaching the home turn, before being taken wider.
 
IT'S GERRY – Passing the 600m, improved onto heels and was obliged to be steadied. Rounding the home turn was bumped on the hindquarters by WATERWORLD and became unbalanced and was then carried wider rounding the home turn. Apprentice B. Wheeler dropped his whip approaching the finishing line. When asked to comment, Apprentice B. Wheeler reported that he was instructed to lead, however when unable to comply with those instructions, the gelding proved to be disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of a slow recovery.
 
ALL STASHED UP – Passing the 600m became awkwardly placed on heels and elected to shift wider to gain clear running.
 
VONZITHER – Approaching the home turn, raced in restricted room and was bumped by WATERWORLD.
 
ILLICIATE AFFAIRS – Began awkwardly. Over-raced during the middle stages of the event.
