SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Jockey R. McMahon (Deiheros) was fined $200 for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

Race 1: Channel 7 Premier’s Cup – 2020m

JETSET LAD – Fractious in the barriers and bounded when the start was effected.

HI SON – Pulled hard in the early stages.

WISH COME TRUE – Shifted out after the 600m due to the slow pace and was allowed to stride to a position outside the leader.

VILANOVA - Jockey K. McEvoy was obliged to take hold of his mount and surrender his position near the 200m. Jockey J. Bowditch, rider of Baligari, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 200m he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of VILANOVA. Jockey J. Bowditch was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 3 June, the expiration of a previously incurred suspension, and to expire at midnight, 13 June. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account jockey Bowditch was commencing a previously incurred suspension at midnight tonight.

HAVASSTAN – Due to the slow pace was caught racing 3 wide from the 1600m. A post race veterinary examination revealed slightly short striding in both forelegs.



Race 2: Glenlogan Park Stakes - 1350m

I’VE GOT THE LOOKS – Began awkwardly. Was left racing 3 wide without cover until carried to a 4 wide position from the 700m. Rider B. Shinn reported that his mount was stepping up in distance from its previous runs and although racing wide throughout today it did not sprint as he had expected when placed under pressure soon after straightening.

SHE’S CLEAN – Had difficulty obtaining clear running at the top of the straight.

PERON – Did not secure clear running in the straight.

TUKIYO – Jockey R. McMahon was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift out over the concluding stages.

SISTER EMMA – Forced to shift out over the concluding stages by another runner.

DISCREET – Steadied off heels approaching the winning post.

JAZZ SONG – A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

SANCERRE – A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post race recovery. Trainer T. Pike was advised because of the manner in which it weakened he would be required to provide a veterinary certificate of fitness and have the mare perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial .

Race 3: Landfill Logistics Ascot H'cap - 1200m

DREAM OF SLIPS – Change of tactics. – Connections advised that from the wide barrier the gelding would be ridden in a rearward position. The horse was ridden accordingly.

ROCKET TO GLORY – Twisted its near fore plate whilst being paraded resulting in it being returned to the horse-stall area to be replaced. As a result of this there was a slight delay to the start of this race.

DELECTATION – Slow into stride.

INTO THE RED – Slow into stride. Steadied when overracing near the 600m.

TOKAMAK – Steadied when overracing near the 600m.

CUM DIVIDEND – Was carried wider towards heels on straightening and restrained. Again had to be restrained after the 300m when disappointed for a run between runners.

NITE ROCKER – Raced 3 wide without cover. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be slightly short striding in the off foreleg.

CAPE KIDNAPPERS – Raced 4 wide without cover.


Race 4: Programmed Property Services Lord Mayor’s Cup – 1600m

GUNDY SPIRIT – Steadied when crowded for room near the 1500m.

ADDICTIVE HABIT – Raced wide into the first turn.

ESTONIAN PRINCESS – Raced extremely wide in the early stages and had to stride forward to find a position outside the lead near the 1200m. A post race swab sample was taken from the horse.

HOPFGARTEN – Stewards afforded jockey D. Browne the opportunity to comment on the performance of the horse. He stated after having raced up in distance at its previous 2 starts the gelding was back to a mile today and was left flatfooted and only found the line fairly.


Race 5: Mullins Lawyers Grand Prix Stakes – 2020m

JUMBO PRINCE – Apprentice jockey L. Tarrant was charged with reckless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift in shortly after the start when not fully clear of UPHAM, REDOUTABLE HEART, MASTER OF ARTS and taking all those horses in, resulting in INAUGURATION having to be checked, RECKLESS ABANDON being severely checked, CHILLIN WITH DYLAN being hampered and QUICK STRIKE having to be checked. The inquiry was adjourned to 3 pm on Tuesday, 26 May to allow apprentice Tarrant to have his master, Mr F. Phillips present.

Further, that approaching the winning post apprentice L. Tarrant pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear, taking REDOUTABLE HEART in on to MASTER OF ARTS, resulting in RHODIN DRIVE having to be checked. BACHMAN, which was following RHODIN DRIVE, also had to be checked to avoid heels. Apprentice Tarrant was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commenced at midnight, 27 May and to expire at midnight 8 June. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account his good race riding record and his guilty plea.

Jockey Tarrant dropped his whip near the 100m.


MASTER OF ARTS – Brushed the running rail and became unbalanced near the 1600m. Held up for some distance approaching the 200m and then had to be steadied and shift out to improve.

RECKLESS ABANDON – Had to be steadied to avoid heel near the 1500m. M. Cahill, rider of BACKMAN, was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in when not fully clear.

LUCOBLU – Forced wider near the 1000m. Jockey J. Byrne reported despite his efforts his mount pulled extremely hard in the early stages of the event. As a result of this, J. Byrne had no other option but to shift out and stride forward to the outside of the main body of the field. Because of the manner in which the gelding race, it weakened badly in the straight. Trainer P. Duncan was advised that the horse must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before being permitted to start again.

INAUGURATION – Raced wide in the early and middle stages without cover.

QUICK STRIKE – Bumped heavily on straightening.

SAM DE HERO – Rider R. Fradd dropped his whip near the 150m.


Race 6: Mitavite Australia BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes - 1350m

SHADOW LAWN – Slow to begin.

BRING A SECRET – Slow to begin.

COUNTERATTACK – Held up and unable to improve rounding the turn and in the home straight until the 250m.

BLUEBERRY HILL – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

PAYROLL – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider M. Cahill, explained that the filly never travelled comfortably and when able to gain a trail on the back of BLUEBERRY HILL from the 700m it was inclined to hang out for the remainder of the race and proved disappointing.

WICKED INTENT – A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

TYPING – Lost off hind plate in running.


Race 7: Urbis The Roses – Group 2 - 2020m

NO TRICKS – Began awkwardly. Overraced in the early stages and got its head up on a number of occasions. Rider M. Cahill stated the riding tactics were left up to him, however after jumping he elected to take hold of the filly and settle at the rear of the field from the wide barrier. He added however the filly never settled and pulled very hard throughout the event. He advised connections it would be better suited racing in a handier position.

COL ‘N’ LIL – Raced 3 wide without cover in the early and middle stages and was allowed to stride forward to race outside the lead from the 1000m.

PLATINUM WITNESS – Jockey D. Browne reported it was the first time the filly had raced right-handed and was on the wrong leg for the majority of the race, however still proved slightly disappointing with its finishing effort over the final 200m. He added in his view it would take benefit from today’s outing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Lost its near hind plate in running.

YULONG BABY – Lost its off hind plate in running.

BOHEMIAN LILY – Lost its near fore plate in running.

PLATINUM WITNESS – Lost its near hind plate in running.


Race 8: James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10,000 Group 1 – 1350m

All horses in this event were pre-race tested.

GENERALlFE – Inconvenienced on jumping away. Brushed near the finish line.

SCISSOR KICK – Steadied from the heels near the 1000m. Raced 3 wide without cover.

OUR BOY MALACHI – Shifted in near the 1000m, tightening another runner for room. Rider T. Berry was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Bled during the event. Connections were advised that the horse would be barred for 3 months from racing.

ROCK STURDY – Checked near the 800m when overracing and improving to the inside of the heels of SACRED STAR.

NEO – Bumped at the entrance to the straight by FONTELINA.

BIG MONEY – Held up in the straight until inside the 200m.

BRING ME THE MAID – Held up over the final 100m.

CHARLIE BOY – Shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages and brushed another runner.

TEMPLE OF BOOM – Raced 4 wide without cover.




Race 9: Suez Environment Fred Best Classic – 1350m

MISS COVER GIRL – Change of tactics. Connections advised that the filly, which led last start, would be ridden midfield if circumstances permit. The horse raced forward of midfield. Overaced in the middle stages for a short distance.

STAVIVA – Slow to begin.

FEELS LIKE HOME – Pulled hard in the early stages.

NAJOOM – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

REKINDLED POSER – Lost near fore plate in running.

MR CHA CHA - Rider G. Boss reported his mount choked down in the straight and recommended to connections to experiment with a tongue-tie.
