SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From BRC 1.4.17 – Race 2: Apprentice B. Ainsworth, the rider of MARAU DAZE, was fined $100 for using her whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

Race– 1: JAMES BOAG'S PREMIUM DOOMBEN 10,000 DAY BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 2220M

SPEED GONZALES – Shifted in whilst pulling hard approaching the 1400m and made heavy contact with SCARLET POET. Had to be checked approaching the winning post when bumped by SURFACE TENSION, which was taken out by TONI MAY. J. Byrne, the rider of TONI MAY pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) for allowing his mount to shift ground over the concluding stages under whip riding, causing the interference. J. Byrne’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 22 April and expire at midnight on Sunday 30 April 2017.

ROCK VANTAGE – Shifted out and bumped another runner near the 700m.

BRONTE BABE – Forced wider near the 700m.

SPIRIT OF KIOWA – Trainer R. Lipp was questioned as to the improved performance today of SPIRIT OF KIOWA as compared with its performance at Doomben on 1 April. He stated that on that occasion the mare failed to handle the heavy track conditions.

SCARLET POET – Had to steady away from heels approaching the 1600m. Bumped heavily approaching the 1400m. Attempted to shift out near the 1400m but was prevented from doing so by a runner the outside. Held up approaching the home turn.

NELUMBO – Slow to begin.

Race 2: HARDY BROTHERS DOOMBEN CUP DAY QTIS 2YO C&G H’CAP – 1200M

CAPITAL GAIN – Had to steady away from heels near the 700m. Shifted out to improve after leaving the 200m and made contact with another runner.

BLUE COLLAR BOY – Raced wide without cover.

RED PHANTOM – Jumped awkwardly. Forced wider on the track near the 700m.

TWO AMOR – Had to steady away from heels near the 1000m and again near the 700m.

BOLD XAVVI – J. Orman was reminded to ride his mounts right to the finishing line.

MAGICIAN’S SECRET – Had to steady away from heels near the 700m.

SIDEREUS DISCORD – Had to steady away from heels near the 700m.

ZAP – Bumped near the 150m.

Race 3: DARLEY KINGSFORD-SMITH CUP DAY QTIS 2YO FILLIES H’CAP – 1200M

MAKE MY OWN LUCK – Lost its rightful running leaving the 200m when racing at the hindquarters of STARENA, which shifted out when not fully clear. G. Goold, the rider of STARENA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a). Jockey Goold’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 22 April and expire at midnight on Sunday 30 April 2017. In determining penalty, stewards were mindful of jockey Goold’s record in relation to this rule. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near foreleg. Trainer J. Zielke was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next start.

MARSEILLE EN FLEUR – Tightened for room shortly after the start and had to steady away from heels.

SKATE TO PARIS – Had to steady away from heels rounding the first turn.

LAURA’S STAR – Knuckled shortly after the start.

MEIKAS – A post-race veterinary examination

PRICING POWER – Raced wide without cover.

STARENA – Jumped awkwardly.

PONYTALES – Jumped awkwardly.

Race 4: ASCOT GREEN CARNIVAL HIGH TEA OPEN H’CAP – 1050M

STRATURBO – Raced wide without cover in the early stages.

SONY LEGEND – Held up in the early stages of the home straight.

MR FAVULOUS – Had to steady away from heels after leaving the 600m.

TISANI TOMSO – Raced wide without cover.

URBAN KNIGHT – Raced wide without cover.

CROOKED BLAZE – Slow to begin.

TUMBLER – Steadied away from heels near the 900m.

DANGER CLOSE – Trainer G. Duncan was fined $100 for failing to produce the gelding’s Thoroughbred Identification Card. Knuckled on jumping.

Race 5: BRC MEMBERSHIPS QTIS 3YO PLATE – 1350M

ORDER AGAIN – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the straight.

MANIAS – Jumped awkwardly.

CANDIKA – Lost the off hind plate in running.

OUR BEEBEE – Apprentice R. Williams reported that the filly was a little flat-footed when the field sprinted approaching the home turn, however got to the line really strongly and in her opinion would appreciate a step up in distance. When questioned, trainer R. Lipp indicated that he was not disappointed with the filly’s efforts, particularly over the concluding stages, and he will decide within the next week whether he steps the filly up in distance or freshens her up for a short distance race over the Carnival. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

SEDUCTIVE DREAM – Jumped awkwardly. Briefly hampered near the 150m.

Race 6: BLOKES DAY OUT CLASS 3 PLATE – 1350M

BOURBON ROAD – Raced wide throughout.

KOOROC – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

FAR NORTH – Slow to begin.

HERRSCHAFT – Slow to begin.

A NEW SOUND – Raced wide without cover.

KYLIE’S FAME – Trainer D. Vandyke was questioned regarding the horse’s improved performance as compared with its 5th at Ipswich on 7 April. He stated that at Ipswich the instructions were to ride forward, however the mare was unable to hold that position and got back to near the tail of the field and was forced wider on the home turn. He said today the mare was allowed to hold a position behind runners and was able to sprint when placed under pressure.

MARABEL – J. Orman reported that his mount raced fiercely approaching the first turn and then had to steady to avoid heels near the 800m. J. Orman added that his mount refused to settle for some distance after that incident. J. Lloyd, the rider of IRONBORN, was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in leaving the 800m when not fully clear.

Race 7: SKY THOROUGHBRED CENTRAL OPEN H’CAP – 1350M

STEEL ZIP – Briefly tightened for room approaching the 1000m.

FELTRE – Had to steady away from heels near the 600m.

LUCKY TOM – Raced wide without cover. Had to be checked approaching the 200m when tightened for room between SIR MOMENTS and BEATNIKS, which had a tendency to lay away from FELTRE. In this incident J. Byrne, the rider of BEATNIKS, made every effort to prevent his mount from shifting further. As a result of the tightening, LUCKY TOM clipped heels and blundered. The veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding sustained a laceration inside the near fore cannon.

EMPHASIS – Had to be checked away from heels and shift out after passing the 600m. Held up over the concluding stages.

Race 8: EVENTS AT BRC BENCHMARK 85 H’CAP – 1640M

DECONSTRUCTED – Connections advised that it would be the intention to have the horse ridden in a forward position. The horse raced in a midfield position.

KAISER FRANZ – Lost the near fore plate in running.

ANYMORE – Raced in restricted room approaching the 1400m and made contact with another runner.

MR LEBROCK – Trainer T. Edmonds was fined $200 for the late declaration of J. Byrne as rider.

AHMAH STAR – Pulled hard in the early stages, allowed to stride forward and raced wide without cover from the 900m.
