RACE 1: Seppelt Class 2 H’cap – 1800m

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered for the late declaration of Jockey M Hellyer on INFINITE REIGN.
 
RACE 2: Wolf Blass F&M Class 1 H’cap – 1200m
1st: Overstatement    2nd: Mia Sorella    3rd: Lyra    4th:  Miss Amigo
 
OVERSTATEMENT – As the mare had not raced for over 12 months, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.  Restrained from a wide barrier to gain a position closer to the rail.
 
CLOVERLEIGH LASS – As the mare had not raced for over 12 months, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
LYRA – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
 
HOW BIG’S THE HOLE – Soon after straightening had to alter course to the inside of MAGNETIC MISS (V Johnston) in order to improve.  Near the 250m became unbalanced when tightened for room.  Jockey V Johnston was advised to make a greater effort to keep her mounts on a straight course when under pressure in the home straight.
 
RACE 3: Yellowglen C,G&E Class 1 H’cap – 1200m
1st: Star Justice    2nd: Uh Oh    3rd: Emperor Maximilian    4th:  Royal Script
 
The start of this race was delayed when STAR JUSTICE cast its near fore plate during the preliminary.  It was attended to by the farrier behind the barriers and cleared to race.
 
ROYAL SCRIPT – Hampered at the start when bumped by FAMOUS GROUSE.
 
EMPEROR MAXIMILIAN – Over-raced during the early stages.
 
UH OH – Approaching the 1000m bumped by EMPEROR MAXIMILIAN.
 
FAMOUS GROUSE – Jockey M Hellyer reported at scale that the gelding was inclined to hang out for a major part of the race.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.
 
 
RACE 4: Wynns Class 3 H’cap – 1100m
1st: Quelle Liaison    2nd: Cloud Consort    3rd: Marlene Adele    4th:  Really Sure
 
REALLY SURE – Slow to begin.
 
AMERICAN HERO – A little slow to begin.  Over-raced in the early stages.
 
Jockey K Fujii (MARLENE ADELE) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race.  As Stewards were of the opinion that his actions cost MARKENE ADELE 2nd placing, Jockey Fujii’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 14 days to commence midnight 18.03.17 and to expire midnight 01.04.17.
 
 
RACE 5: Matua Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st: Jillies Jet    2nd: Ned’s Round    3rd: Kitti Ping    4th:  Wicked Investment
 
Stewards gave permission for App. Jarrod Woodhouse to take his ride on EVEREST KTWO while only being able to claim 2½kg of his 3kg allowance.  App. Woodhouse was subsequently fined the sum of $300.
 
SUMMERHILL – Slow to begin.
 
WICKED INVESTMENT – Hampered at the start when tightened for room. 
 
JUST PIP – For some distance approaching the passing the 1000m when over-racing, had to be restrained from the heels of EVEREST KTWO.
 
BROOKAJOE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
STORMY LEO – Rounding the home turn steadied from heels.
 
GOOD CATCH – When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey S Doyle explained that it was his intention to ride the horse in a forward position however, the gelding could not muster any early speed and as a result settled mid-field with cover.  He added that when he applied pressure rounding the home turn GOOD CATCH did not respond and was disappointing in its finishing effort.   A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.  Trainer S Morrisey was unable to explain today’s performance and undertook to report to stewards anything that may become apparent in the coming days that may have had an effect on the horse’s performance.
 
 
RACE 6: Squealing Pig QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap - 1200m
1st: Sharpamal    2nd: Tay Swift    3rd: The Sheepish Lion    4th:  Grey Steyne
 
SHEZA LILY - After being slow to begin, hampered soon after the start when bumped by GREY STEYNE.  Became unbalanced and made contact with the running rail when tightened for room near the 800m.  Near the 100m inconvenienced when momentarily tightened for room.
 
TAY SWIFT - For some distance passing the 600m and rounding the home turn, hung out badly and near the 400m had to be checked from the heels of SHARPAMAL. Stable representative, Vanessa Bartlett, was advised that the filly would be required to compete in an official barrier trial prior to racing again due to its erratic racing manners.
 
BEAU DANCER – Passing the 400m, checked from heels.
 
MIA’S GOT CLASS - Passing the 400m, checked severely and shifted out abruptly.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination.
 
SUAVADO - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.  Jockey R McMahon reported that after racing wide he tested the filly approaching the home turn and soon after straightening he eased SUAVADO down as it was not responding to his riding.  Trainer P Balzen will be interviewed regarding the horse’s performance.
 
 
RACE 7: T’Gallant Ratings Band 0 – 62 H’cap – 1400m
1st: Bronzed Venom    2nd: Bobby Be Good    3rd: Massive Attack    4th:  Panch Kalyan
 
PLANET AMERICA - After being slow to begin, hampered soon after the start when bumped by BOBBY BE GOOD.
 
MASSIVE ATTACK - Pulled hard in the early stages and had to be restrained from the heels of BOBBY BE GOOD on a number of occasions.
 
 
RACE 8: Saltram Class 5 H’cap – 1400m
1st: My Firecracker    2nd: Moment of Impact    3rd: Swindlers Miss    4th:  Flo Jo Snip
 
COASTAL GEM – Slow to begin.
 
JETINTOIT – Slow to begin.
 
ON DEMAND – Approaching the 1300m eased when tightened for room by BIAGIOTTI.  Restrained from heels when over-racing during the middle stages.
 
BIAGIOTTI – Leaving the 700m App. J Guthmann-Chester’s foot slipped from his near side iron causing him to be dislodged.
 
FLO JO SNIP – Jockey S Doyle reported that the gelding was inclined to hang in in the home straight under pressure which resulted in him not being able to ride the horse out in his usual manner.
