GENERAL
Due to the forecast extreme heat, Stewards permitted Apprentice N. Morton to claim 1.5kg of her 2kg allowance in races 1 and 5.
RACE 1: MILES IGA/CHAPLAIN BUTCHERY BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1050M
QUEEN OF CARDIFF – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
SQUEEMI – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost significant ground.
EXSTRATUM – Raced wide throughout.
SUIT – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 2: CONDABRI FEEDLOT/CREEK CAFÉ QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M
FREESTONE – Scratched at 10:45am as no rider was available.
BUDDY HOLLOW – Improved onto the heels of another runner near the 600m, had to be steadied, and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
TYPHOON TAHNIE – Steadied when racing in restricted room near the 600m.
NOTHIN’ ZAPPENIN’ – Inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, apprentice H. English reported that the mare had to work hard in the early stages after beginning from a wide barrier, and from the middle stages did not travel comfortably at any stage and in her opinion did not handle today’s track conditions.
ACADINI – When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer G. Arnold advised that the gelding had benefitted from a six-month spell to gain maturity, had jumped out well in the lead up today’s event, and he was expecting a forward showing.
RACE 3: JOHN MULLINS MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 50 H'CAP – 1500M
COOL DAYS – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
RACE 4: NEILSENS TRANSPORT CLASS B H’CAP – 1200M
THAT’S HER I THINK – Raced wide throughout.
PARALEMA - Raced wide throughout.
MONTE VICTORY – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 5: MURILLA CUP (SPONSERED BY Q HOTEL) OPEN H'CAP – 1200M
REPO ZEST – Raced below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor post-race recovery. Trainer’s representative J. Baker undertook to advise stewards if any abnormalities come to light in the following days.
