On declaration of correct weight stewards ordered all bets on GOING BALLISTIC refunded in full with deductions of 20 cents win and 16 cents place face value of all winning bets to apply. SPPs are not subject to these deductions. Trainer P Sexton was advised the mare must trial prior to its next race start. Jockey B Derbyshire was examined by QAS medical staff and cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements..

NIMIA slow to begin, then hampered near the 200 metres when the tiring GALAXY QUEST shifted out.

STAR OF BETHLEHEM when questioned rider M O Brien stated the mare lost ground between the 500 metres and the 200 metres when STAR OF BETHLEHEM in her opinion over-reached and became unbalanced at that point of the race. She added in the straight the mare was able to respond to her riding and finished the race off fairly. A post race vet examination of STAR OF BETHLEHEM failed to reveal any abnormality. Stewards noted the comments.

GALAXY QUEST raced wide for majority of the event. Shifted out near the 200 metres when weakening and hampered NIMIA.

STORM ANCHOR as B P Appo was delayed due to transport problems, and no other senior rider was available, App B Rooney was substituted as the rider on the gelding.

When questioned regarding tactics adopted in the early stages of the event, App B Rooney stated after settling in a midfield position on the rails she was initially reluctant to overly pressure the gelding to hold that position as she was attempting to comply with instructions from the trainer to be off the fence coming to the home turn and bring STAR HERO to the outside if possible when making its run. After viewing the DVD replay App Rooney agreed she had not considered alternative tactics as the race unfolded, and that she had erred in not maintaining a more forward position in the early and middle stages of the event. Taking into account App Rooneyys limited race riding experience and the circumstances of the race stewards took no further action..

JILLLS SHADOW raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 5: OPEN HDCP 1600 Metres

COOEEMARCH slow to begin. Stewards, in the presence of master Mr P Duff, questioned App B Rooney regarding her riding between the 700 metres and the approaching the home-turn which resulted in COOEEMARCH failing to progress forward at that stage of the race. COOEEMARCH was then placed under pressure in the home straight and finished the race off strongly. App Rooney, on review of the DVD replay, agreed she had erred in not making greater effort to pressure COOEEMARCH leaving the 700 metres and so maintain a more forward position at that stage of the event. Stewards took no direct action and noted the circumstances of the event.

As J Hoopert was unable to be weighed in as the winner, stewards acting under AR142 declared correct weight. J Hoopert was advised he will require a medical clearance prior to resuming race riding. A post race vet examination of LUCKY TICKET revealed no significant findings. Stable representative for Trainer B Murray was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding subject to stewards seeking any comments from rider J Hoopert.

FIRST REGRET slow to begin. Approaching the finish line shifted out abruptly resulting in App L Dodds becoming momentarily becoming unbalanced. Trainer W Melvin was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners. App L Dodds pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 300 metres when riding his mount along he directed FIRST REGRET outwards resulting in WENSLEY ROAD being checked and forced wider on the track and GET OUTA UTAH being hampered and also forced wider on the track. L Dodds was suspended for a period of 12 days to commence midnight 12th August until midnight 24th August 2017.
