Race 1: LIPTON MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M

THE DOCTOR – Raced three wide throughout without cover.

IDIDITMYWAY – Slow into stride and lost significant ground.

ZOFAST – Held up between the 400m and the 200m. Hung out rounding the home turn and was severely checked and lost ground when attempting a run to the inside of DASHING POWER near the 200m. L. Cassidy reported that his mount raced ungenerously and wanted to hang out throughout the event, in particular near the 650m and again approaching the final turn. When questioned regarding whether he had an opportunity to shift his mount wider on the track prior to the home turn, jockey Cassidy explained that  in order to do so he would have had to restrain his mount half a length or more and he was doubtful as to whether there would have been sufficient room to ease wider on the course nearing the 300m, considering the racing manners of his mount. Stewards noted his comments.

CONISTON SUNRISE – Began awkwardly. Checked and lost ground near the 850m. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

KENTUCKIES BEST – Apprentice C. Gallagher was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in near the 850m, causing tightening to other runners. When asked to comment on the mare’s perceived form improvement today, trainer G. Cornish stated that in his view, as the mare tends to get excited, the horse appreciated racing on its home track. He added that since its last start it has shown some natural improvement and had also won a jump-out on the Beaudesert course recently, however noted that, in his view, the mare did race above his expectations.

PAT’S GIRL – Raced three wide throughout.

WONZERO – Jumped awkwardly. Obliged to check on two occasions approaching the 850m when overracing and racing greenly. Obliged to steady when placed at the heels of other runners whilst overracing near the 650m. Momentarily tightened near the home turn. Obliged to alter course near the 150m. Trainer L. Richardson was advised that a warning will be placed on the horse’s racing manners.

DASHING POWER – After making the final turn awkwardly, began to hang in near the 200m, despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in ZOFAST having to be checked.

WAKE UP VICTA – Hampered when disappointed for a run near the 150m and had to alter course.

During the running of this event it was noted that a section of the inside running rail near the 1200m crossing had become detached. Following the event stewards directed track maintenance staff to reinstate the rail and to take appropriate steps to prevent a recurrence.

VOANABA – Disappointed for a run approaching the finish line.

TOOGOOLAWAH TRUMP – Tightened on jumping and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the horse for its poor performance.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 3.

Race 6: BARRIER REEF POOLS BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 1100M

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, apprentice T. Marshall, the rider of CAPTAIN EYCHE, placed 3rd by the Judge, lodged an objection against SNIPETRON (A. Badger) being placed 2nd, alleging interference from shortly after entering the straight until approaching the 100m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that although CAPTAIN EYCHE had begun to improve to the inside of SNIPETRON near the 200m, that runner then shifted in, inconveniencing CAPTAIN EYCHE. Stewards found that although SNIPETRON did shift in tightening the running of CAPTAIN EYCHE, they could not be comfortably satisfied that the extent of the interference sustained by CAPTAIN EYCHE exceeded the margin of three-quarters of a length separating both runners at the finish and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings. At a subsequent inquiry A. Badger, the rider of SNIPETRON, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that she permitted her mount to shift in, causing interference to CAPTAIN EYCHE. Jockey Badger’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Tuesday 5 June and expire at midnight on Wednesday 13 June 2018. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Badger’s good riding record as well as her plea of not guilty.

STELLARCRAFT – Began slowly and lost significant ground and shortly thereafter improved rapidly along the rails before being inconvenienced near the 700m. Overraced in the early stages. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed some lacerations to its head, most likely caused by contact with the barriers.

KEOSON – A. Sewell was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in and cause tightening to STELLARCRAFT near the 700m.

PERDU – Ridden aggressively from the barriers to take up a forward position, however raced wide throughout.

OUR ROCKY – Raced three wide with cover. Trainer D. Pearson was asked to comment regarding the perceived form improvement of OUR ROCKY today. Mr Pearson stated that when it raced at Beaudesert on 25 April he was of the view that the horse failed to handle the track conditions on that day. He added that there had been some conjecture as to the track ratings on that particular day and stated that OUR ROCKY performs best on good to firm surfaces. He added that on 25 May at Casino the horse overraced and was caught wide throughout, which resulted in its poor performance on that particular day. Mr Pearson also stated that all three wins of OUR ROCKY to date have been on the Beaudesert circuit. Stewards noted his comments. A post-race blood sample was also taken.
