Whilst most riders conceded that the racing surface provided safe footing for the horses, the significant amount of kickback resulted in them having extreme difficulties in having sufficient visibility to ensure the safety of themselves, their mounts and their fellow riders. Bearing in mind that upcoming races had large fields, and that rain was continuing, a vote amongst the riders determined that the vast majority of riders did not wish to continue with the meeting as they believed their visibility would diminish. Therefore, stewards declared that the remainder of the meeting not proceed.
