ALLEVIATOR – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Overraced and hung in passing the 600m. When questioned, jockey J. Lloyd stated that his mount began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly and seemed to have trouble mustering speed on the heavy track. He added the gelding then travelled in the middle stages however got slightly crowded from DON’T LEAVE ME from the 600m, resulting in the horse laying in away and brushing the rail. Trainer T. Edmonds’ representative was advised that the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

LOVESON – Near the 200m, when laying in, shifted in and away from SETOGA and was checked from the heels of SHE’S OUR STAR.

GLENDARA – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

TORGERSEN – Had to be checked near the 500m when it hung out towards the heels of CHIVADAHLII. When questioned regarding the incident approaching the home turn, jockey R. Fradd stated his mount was inclined to hang out after leaving the 600m when racing in restricted room, resulting in him losing some ground. Stable representative Mr P. Shailer stated that the gelding raced ungenerously at its previous start and hung out, however he attributed that to the tight turning track at Ipswich, adding that the stable would continue on with its preparation. He added that whilst the gelding finished the race off well, he was of the opinion it may have come to the end of its preparation.

MAGNATUNE – Approaching the winning post became unbalanced when it shied away from the running rail.

Following this event the track rating was upgraded to Soft 7.

Race 5: The Highway Zone Casino Exclusive Car Jackpot Class 3 Plate – 1630m

MUSTARRID – Had to be resaddled behind the barriers. When questioned regarding the performance of the horse, jockey J. Lloyd stated he had been instructed to hold a position either in front or behind the leaders as the gelding had previously shown a tendency to overrace. He stated rounding the first turn when joined by AUDREE, he was content to allow that mare to improve forward of him as it has a history of hanging out, however it appeared that Miss Fancourt, rider of AUDREE, was reluctant to allow her mount to stride forward. He added after being crossed his mount then dropped the bit and was reluctant to hold its positon, and from that point on he had to continue to pressure the gelding and, in his opinion, was not comfortable in the track conditions and only finished the race off fairly.

EKSUUDE – Began awkwardly.

TOP RAVINE – Which was caught 3 wide in the early stages without cover, strode forward and raced outside the leader at the 900m.

AUDREE – Apprentice A. Fancourt reported that the mare did not handle the track conditions today.

BRACTEATE – Caught 3 wide in the early stages and was then allowed to stride forward to race outside the leader near the 1400m.

MAYBE EVEN YOU – Raced 3 wide without cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed abrasions to both forelegs and was suffering from thumps.

TISANI TOMSO – Jockey P. Hammersley reported his mount lost both front plates in running.

SUPREME EFFORT – When questioned regarding his riding of the of the gelding, jockey D. Browne advised that he was instructed to ride his mount where comfortable, however for the first 300m of the race his mount was unbalanced in the track conditions and as a result settled further back than anticipated. He added that after following MALVERN ESTATE he elected to improve to its outside approaching the home turn where he anticipated a run to the inside of STELLA OMBRA, which had a tendency to hang out, and that after obtaining that run he did not apply full pressure as he was attempting to pick the horse up under its big weight in the track conditions. Jockey Browne added that he had ridden the gelding twice before and had come to the outside to allow it to finish off its races. Stewards advised jockey Browne that whilst noting his explanation, they did have concerns with his riding of SUPREME EFFORT, particularly from the 400m until near the 250m. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 9: Treasury Brisbane’s Art Of The Palate Presented by Penforld’s Class 6 Plate – 1350m

MOTION GRANTED – Began awkwardly.

CLOCKWORK ORANGE – Bumped near the 50m by FORTENSKY. Jockey R. Fradd, rider of FORTENSKY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he allowed his mount to shift out under riding inside the 100m, resulting in that horse being taken out on to CLOCKWORK ORANGE, which in turn was taken out slightly onto LET’S PARTY MARTY, resulting in both of these horses being checked. Jockey Fradd was suspended from riding in races for a period of 11 days, to commence at midnight, 25 February and to expire at midnight, 7 March 2018.
